Sky goes holographic for new video

TORONTO -- James and Antoine of Sky spent the day pretending to be holograms.

On Wednesday the duo shot a video for "All I Want," the fourth single from their debut album, "Piece Of Paradise."

Female extras lounge around in the darkened Tonic nightclub in Toronto while a tired James -- on set since 5 a.m. -- took a break to discuss the video and the next Sky album.

As far as his hopes for the video goes, he says he simply wants it to "look like our director wants it to."

Since the single is, in his words, a straightforward love song, the theme of the video won't be too complicated.

"It deals with relationships in certain scenes," James says. "Over all, it's (the video's) just images," adding that he's excited about a "dissolving effect" the director plans on using.

"We'll look a little like holograms," he says.

The video should be ready to air in about two weeks. It's directed by Noble Jones who also directed Susan Aglukark "One Turn Deserves Another", Won 1999 MMVA for best D.O.P. "Turn Lights On" by Big Sugar (also directed) and "Why" by Wide Mouth Mason.

Meanwhile, Sky is already looking toward the future and thinking about new songs.

James, especially, is happy to have time to write alone again. He's not crazy about being in the spotlight.

"Being a public figure has been a pain in the ass," he says. "It's not my shtick. I'm a writer, I like to spend time alone. Antoine is great at it, a good P.R. person. Me, it's not my thing."

The new album should be out around June 2000. Fans can expect it to sound a bit different from "Piece Of Paradise." James says he and Antoine hope to produce the new record by themselves.

Before James has to return to the shoot, he takes a minute to thank the people who've made his career a success.

"What's great about this business is the fans," he says. "I'd like to thank them all since we didn't get to at the MMVA's (Much Music Video Awards)."
