A mistake.

OK, so now I'm skipping foreward kind of a long time. A few things happened, but nothing really too important, and I've gone so long without writing that I forgot a lot of it. :(

Word came back from a scouting party that a little group of felines from Rolarii had been sited in the forests, just at the edge of the Mangarth mountains. A group of us flew to go see what they were doing, and to chase them out of our space. Some other hunters, Srric, and I. It's a long flight over the mountains, and by the time we got there, they'd started to make camp, right at the edge of the forest.

One of them turned out to be a pretty good magic user, which caused trouble... but one of them ran, and that's the one Srric and I chased. He was really clever, and did good in the woods. But we know the forest really well, and between us we routed him. Srric had gotten really mad, and was totally prey focussed... and didn't realize the cat was about to cross the border into Mythrayel.

I flew after, skree-ing to get his attention, but it didn't help. They both went through, and I caught up, flying through. The wind went right out from under my wings, and I fell, skidding hard. Srric had too, and was chasing the cat on foot. And then the centaurs saw them.

The centaurs have built up a big wall around a lot of the crossing, with guard towers, and lights, and all kinds of things. Just because sometimes we used to go in and kill one or two, and drag them back for dinner. It was always dangerous before, becuase they have guns. I don't really understand guns. I just hate them.

The centaurs shouted something in their stupid language, then other stuff in common. I wasn't paying attention, I was trying to get Srric, before something bad happened. He got a good hit in on the cat, tore him open, and then there were all these popping sounds. Srric's head jerked back, blood spraying, and he fell flat. I skidded to a stop, and started backing up, but it was too late for me, too. I felt the little evils hitting me, in the belly, the hip, the throat...

I couldn't breath, felt the blood pouring down my neck and my side... I turned, and ran. Too late for Srric. I barely made it back. The others had chased the cats deeper into the woods, and were returning to see how Srric and I had done. They dragged me further away from the interface, one of them flying back home for carry nets and a healer, the other trying to stop the bleeding. It was bad. Really bad. I knew I was going to die. The centaurs came and threw Srric's body through, laughing.
