This brief statement reflects some of the basic things we - members of the Churches of Christ - believe in. The entire text is a quotation from the Old Paths Network homepage. We highly recommend you to visit their site.
Central guidance for churches of Christ is provided by the Lord from heaven. Local congregations are led by elders in accordance with the New Testament (Titus 1:5-9; 1 Timothy 3:1-15). Churches of Christ do not participate in central associations, organizations or hierarchies of any kind. The practices and teachings of each congregation are based solely on the Holy Scriptures which equip us fully for every good work (2 Timothy 3:14-17).
As in the first century, some congregations do a better job of following Christ than others! Some even depart from the word of God and no longer qualify as churches of Christ (Revelation 2:5).
The directories listed below are attempts by certain brethren and congregations to assist travelers and those searching for a congregation in their community. Various criteria have been used in compiling these lists, and no list can be complete or entirely reliable.
Thus, please use this information with discretion. When you visit one of these congregations, observe their practices, ask questions about their teaching, and compare what you see and hear with the "form of doctrine to which you were delivered" (Romans 6:17) to determine whether they are truly obeying the Spirit's command through Paul: "Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 1:13). In some cases you can also determine this by visiting a congregation's web page!
"Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:21,22).
