Introduction

A drug abuse resistance education programme

Dare to make a Choice is the first programme of DARE NZ, the comprehensive drug abuse resistance education programme being undertaken by the New Zealand Police and DARE NZ. It has been developed in response to an increasing awareness amongst police, schools and community of the need to protect young people from drug misuse.

Dare to make a Choice is very much a community owned programme, where the school and its community, of which the Police are very much a part, take responsibility for enabling and educating young people to make sensible choices about their use of drugs. As such, Dare to make a Choice is an important community policing initiative with the focus on the school.
