This page is contains sites that will be helpful in our study of English this year. It is divided into the categories of general, writing/grammar, and reading.
There is no better starting place for second language English learners than Dave's ESL Cafe. This site was one of the first to be devoted to ESL issues and the author is knowledgeable and entertaining. His expertise in crafting this site has turned him into a sought after speaker on the TESOL conference tour. His links will take you nearly everywhere in the ESL cyber universe.
Check out Poets.org for a site with thousands of great poems.
Writing
To polish your writing skills I would suggest the Guide
to Grammar and Writing.
This site is provided by a community college and some of the explanations
are difficult for a lower level student to follow. Dave's ESL Cafe
has some lower level writing information for those who find this guide
too difficult.
Go to Rottentomatoes.com to read a huge selection of the most up-to-date movie reviews.
Check out Dictionary.com for a look at my favorite online dictionary.
Writing a poem? Go to Rhymezone.com to find the right rhyming word.
K-12 Reading
For a good site with lots of stuff on authentic reading for kids and young adults try the American Library Association Resources for Parents and Kids. This is an interactive site which allows kids to send in reviews of books they have read.
