Dreams
Dreaming is something I hold in very high esteem. (And I mean as in dreaming when asleep...) I write most of my dreams down after having them, and I find it very rewarding to be able to keep a record of what goes on within my subconscious at various times in my life. I strongly believe that the study of dreaming should be something more valued within our society.
I have had some recurring dreams that I feel are important to who I am... Some of the images I've had in my dreams are symbols of certain emotions ..and somewhat like clues to the puzzle of my mind's more darker places. I believe we all could know ourselves better and be closer to our true selves if we took the time to remember our dreams.
Here is a list of images that I've found were important in my dreams through the years:
Snakes:
Ive had all different recurring snakes in my dreams... Usually it is the same thing happening: I am in a situation where one could strike me, but I have to either get around it or grab its head and strangle it. There have been tan ones, black ones, even silver ones... Usually, the most dangerous one in my dreams is the cobra type.
I would have to assume that the symbollic meaning of this has both to do with sexuality and also possibly my mind trying to teach me about something I am repressing. The snake has been the "teacher" since ancient times and I often use it in my dreams as a part of who I am somehow.
Deserts & Dusty Roads:
I'm always somewhere that's like a desert...and I usually am some kind of child orphan, although I can be an adult as well. And of course, sometimes snakes are found in the desert...
Boat/Hotel/Restaurants:
I used to have these recurring sort of combination restaurant/hotel/boat dreams... Hard to explain, but it starts where I can not trust the people there and I usually have to run from some kind of spy type guys. Then it turns dark and cold and there are damp spots on the floors of the rooms and hallways. Next the floor cracks and the ship (or whatever it is) is sinking fast. I'd usually wake up, very tense... But I've since stopped having these dreams, thank god!
Space and Time:
I've had dreams where I am in a capsule alone out in space and also ones where I'm in a spaceship thing -- trying to keep things from going wrong (losing oxygen and so forth). I've also had dreams where I'm able to change time. Or where there is an object that represents Time itself and I am able to manipulate it in one form or another.
Lost Animals:
I have to take care of these orphaned pets. There are sometimes a bunch of different kinds (dogs, cats, ferrets!) But most of the time, I have this recurring one about trying to take care of a kitten -- probably because I lost a kitten once due to a sever illness.. and it was kind of painful as a kid. I'm also a big animal lover.
Murderers:
There are usually these murderers that are either chasing me-- or after someone I care about. And of course, I have to try and stop them. The coolest one I had about that, I ended up calling "The Storms and The Seas" dream and it was actually pretty empowering...
It had this guy who had killed my supposed best friend and his whole family. He sometimes took the shape of a demonic wolf as well. At the end of the dream, he was swallowed up by a gigantic tidal wave. It had such an epic feel to it. I think it basically represented how nothing and no one is as powerful as nature... And I always thought it was a very cool dream.
