NORSE MYTHOLOGY: FREY

FREY

Frey was the lord of peace and prosperity. His father was Niord, god of the sea and his twin sister was Freya. One day he sat in Odin's High Chair and saw Gerda, daughter of an ogre and fell in love with her. Her family wanted his sword, that could fight on it's own accord, as a bride-price. He gave up his sword and was married to her.
Frey was very beautiful and powerful and belonged to the Vanir, who were another 'tribe' of gods. During a war between the Aesir and the Vanir, Frey, Freya and Niord were taken hostage and remained at Asgard for the rest of their life.
He was gien a golden boar by a dwarf, and from then on the boar became sacred to him. he also had a ship that would always get favourable wind, yet would be folded up like a handkerchief. In Ragnarok, after all the other captains were dead, Frey was the only one left standing. He fought the fire-giant Surt but because he didn't have his magical sword he was killed.
