NORSE MYTHOLOGY

Norse Mythology

Because Vikings were warriors, most of their gods were war based, but they had all the range of gods the other civilisations had. I found that I liked the Norse Myth far better than either the Greek of Egyptian myths, because they were much better, and longer.

The main group of gods were called the Aesir (pronounced EYEzeer). Odin(pronounced OHdin) was the head of the Viking Gods, and was married to Frigg. Odin had four main sons. The first was Thor(pronounced Thaw), god of thunder and lighting. Odin's second son was Balder (BORLda) who was the sun god. Hoder was Odin's thrid son, who was blind. Tyr (Teer) was the forth son, and was god of courage and justice. Frey and Freya were twins, and lord of peace and prosperity and lady of love and beauty respectively. The only Aesir who wasn't really a god was Loki (loke-ee). The Valkyries (VALKeereez) were Odin's beautuful handmaidens, who lead the dead warriors who died in battle to Valhalla. The guardian of the gates to Asgard (AZgard) was Heimdall (HAYM-DALL) 1
