Elliott (Elliad) R. Silcoff
Born Jan 30th, 1971 in Montreal, Canada
In 1989 I moved to Israel where I completed my undergraduate degree in medicinal chemistry.
I continued with my studies at the Hebrew University where I perfored my masters reseach under the tutaledge of Prof. Tuvia Sheradsky on asymmetric cycloaddition reactions. I finishing my doctorate in Feb. 2000, on research into the synthesis of polymers with isolated chromophores which are intended for use in electrooptical devices.
From Feb. 2000 to Sept. 2000 a worked at the Weizmann Institute with Prof. Meir Lahav for half a year as a Bronfman fellow.
Since September of this year I have been in the U.S. doing postdoctoral research with Prof. Barry M. Trost at Stanford University. I am working on asymmetric aldol reactions using bimattalic zinc catalysts.
My chemistry interests include transannular Diels-Alder reactions, particularly as part of tanden processes, atom economy and green chemical reactions (reaction in alternative solvents like supercritical carbon dioxide, water and biphasic systems and ionic liquids). As well, I have interests in new methods for the teaching of chemistry and sciences.
