Pictures and news from the Kelly's...
From Mary...
I don't have any pictures but thought I would briefly catch
you up on our summer.
Mikkel and Suzanne vacationed briefly on Pike's Peak.
However, Jack, 11, had broken both of the bones in his lower arm, right
near his wrist, and was in a splint temporarily and they went home early
to get the cast. He was roller blading. Jack spent two weeks for GTE
students at Colorado State and LOVED it! Paul commented that his room
looked like a jail cell! How well we remember those dorm rooms. Paul has
done lots of soccer...went to a soccer camp while Jack was off all sports
for 10 weeks. School is starting and they love learning!
Andrew has been reading on his own for some time. He is
finally 5 and in Kindergarten! Whew!
Suzanne is going to Minneapolis over Labor Day to visit her
father, Paul. His Parkinson's seems to be moving swiftly now and he is so
young!
Mikkel just newspapers away. He is much more involved in
management and not writing as much.
Annie, John and Joseph are enjoying their new location in
Ohio. It has certainly been a dislocation in some ways. They have
had some rough adjustments but with Opal's help I think all is well. There
was a Joe in JoeJoe's class already, so now he is Joseph. Annie's project
is huge. She still needs to hire five more people. John's company was sold
and he had to interview with the new owners/ceo? I haven't heard but I
hope he made it.
Tom and Maureen are on the go! They have been to the lake 5
times (me once) and Dillon once. Johanna loved seeing Mikkel and the boys
(Suzanne had a previous commitment).
Mikkel et al drove up on Sunday and they swam and played.
Well, I have had a busy summer also! I spent a week in June
with Mikkel's boys. I love to play games with them and hear them practice
the piano.
I spent a couple of days in Santa Fe. My first time to
Indian Market and they are doing so many new things! We had a fabulous
brunch at the Grant St. Corner Inn. We went to the Santa Fe Chamber
Festival and heard a 12 year old prodigy play MoZARTS PIANO QUARTET in G.
It was extraordinary...watch for him. His name is Kit Armstrong and he is
Asian. We collapsed into our beds at the El Rey Inn (a bargain place on
Cerrillos Road). Then On Monday we went to the Russian exhibit at the New
Mexico Museum. Many personal items, lletters, pictures had never been
shown before of Nicholas and Alexandra, the last czar and the last
Romanov's. We lunched a t a new cafe called Paris. All had delicious food
but me. Dried up old chicken again!
We then toured a gallery owned by a friend and investigated
an absolutely charmin g B&B called The Inn of the Five Graces. Of
course, it is an old adobe strucure redone. We changed our clothes
and headed up to the Opera Ranch where we had a lovely dinner and lecture.
The Opera starts early this time of year. At 8 PM the magic began.
Bellini's "La Sommnabula" was delighlful from the fist
note. The coloratura is the biggest star in France. A tiny little person
with a big voice. At 11 PM we were coming down the hill to home after a
splendid getaway!
The Balloon Fiesta starts the first weekend in October.
Annie, John and JoeJoe will be here for that. The second and last weekend
my friends from our Navy assignment at Quonset Point Rhode Island are
coming. We all lived on this old farm on the old Post Road, Highway One in
1954! There are two couples and one widow. We will have a ball no matter
if the balloons are able to fly or not!
I hope everyone has had a good summer.
