We have gathered here to support the objectives of the recent Iranian student movement in Iran, and ask all international organizations to join us for this cause that is nothing but implementation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In various manners, Iranian people in general and students specifically have lawfully demanded their fundamental legal rights such as freedom of thought, freedom of opinion, freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, freedom of association, and right of assembly. The Iranian government, instead of recognizing fundamental human rights, has repeatedly ignored the rights of its citizens and subjected its people to imprisonment, cruel and undignified treatment.
After authorities illegally shut down one of the Tehran daily newspapers, Salam, students started a peaceful demonstration. Continuing their protest against obvious violation of individual and social rights, students were attacked by security forces and mobs supported by police forces who violently stormed the students' dormitories, beat students and destroyed their belongings. Shamelessly the mobs supported by police forces did not stop and killed one person and set the students' dormitories on fire. In spite of continual mob attacks, students protest continued for several days throughout Tehran and other major cities in Iran, including city of Tabriz in which one student was killed. The government, so far, has acknowledged that more than 1000 people have been arrested in Tehran and planed to charge some of them with treason.
In support of Iranian people and their fundamental and lawful requisitions, today we demand for full implantation of Universal Deceleration of Human Rights in Iran. We also demand for immediate release of all political prisoners and due process of law and fair trial for all alleged blameworthy people.
