Harrell's 30th Birthday
Hi everyone!  Harrell was finally able to get a "long-weekend pass" from the missile range to come home for a visit. He arrived late Thursday night and stayed a night at a hotel near DFW so he could go to breakfast with some of his old "work" buddies. He then spent Friday & Friday night with Melaine's family and Saturday evening with his Smith family. Since he had to leave on the evening before his birthday (23 Sep 2002) we had a birthday dinner for him at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Mesquite, Texas. 15 of us had a great time wishing him a great 30th birthday. He had to head back to base on Sunday afternoon.

Harrell's 30th birthday cake was a vanilla cream cake with buttercream frosting. Trimmed in green icing it was surrounded by 30 plastic army soldiers and topped by an army truck, an army jeep, an US flag and numeral 30 candles.

After dinner, Harrell very politely cut & served a piece of his birthday cake to everyone in attendance before digging in to the rest of the cake himself.
Melaine tried to help him eat his cake the traditional way, through the face rather than the mouth.
