e-mail and Internet Access accounts
- Print these instructions first. If you have questions, ask the
instructor or the lab attendant for assistance.
- Go to http://mail.yahoo.com by clicking on the underlined link.
- Sign-up for a free e-mail account by clicking on the Sign
me up! link and following instructions. Remember the User
Id and the Password you
enter. Since Passwords are case
sensitive, you need also to remember the exact case (lower or upper) you
used.
- Give a student in your class your email address and ask him/her to send
you an email. Get also his/her e-mail address and send him/her an
email as explained below.
To send an e-mail message from your yahoo account, follow these
instructions:
- If you are already logged into yahoo mail, go to step 6.
- Enter http://mail.yahoo.com in
the browser's address bar.
- After few seconds the sign-in screen will appear.
- Enter your Yahoo ID and Password then click on the Sign in button.
- After few seconds the yahoo mail page loads.
- Click on the Compose link to create a message.
- After the Compose Mail screen loads:
- Enter the address of your classmate in the To: box.
- In the Subject: box enter "Hello Classmate!"
- In the message box enter a short message such as "This
message is from <your name>. My e-mail address is
<your e-mail address>"
- Click on the Send button to send the e-mail to your classmate.
- Wait till your classmate send you the e-mail, then check your mailbox for
messages as explained below.
To check your yahoo e-mail account for messages, follow these instructions:
- If you are already logged into yahoo mail, go to step 6.
- Enter http://mail.yahoo.com in
the browser's address bar.
- After few seconds the sign-in screen will appear.
- Enter your Yahoo ID and Password then click on the Sign in button.
- After few seconds the yahoo mail page loads.
- Click on the Inbox link to read your messages.
- After few seconds you will see a list of all e-mail sent to you.
- Click on the link for the message you want to read.
- After reading the message, you can respond to the sender by clicking
on the Reply button.
- Send an e-mail to your instructor at csit101@yahoo.com
informing him of your new e-mail address that you created. Make sure
to include your full name and the section number of the class in your email
message.
- (optional) Configure your e-mail account for access from email programs (such as
Eudora, Microsoft Outlook, and Netscape Messenger) using POP3 as explained
below.
To configure your e-mail account for POP3 access, follow these instructions:
- If you are already logged into yahoo mail, go to step 6.
- Enter http://mail.yahoo.com in
the browser's address bar.
- After few seconds the sign-in screen will appear.
- Enter your Yahoo ID and Password then click on the Sign in button.
- After few seconds the yahoo mail page loads.
- Click on the Options link.
- After the Options screen appear, click on the POP Access &
Forwarding link. This
will display the "Mail Delivery Status" screen.
- Choose the Web and POP Access option from Step 1 and then click
on the Submit button at the end of form.
- After the POP Configuration screen is displayed, click
on the Sign Out link to exit yahoo mail.
- If you like to learn about POP mail and how you can use Microsoft
Outlook or other email application to read your email messages, check
with your instructor.
- (optional) If you have at home a Window 95 or 98 computer system with a
28.8K or better modem and do not have an Internet connection, you might want
to check http://www.1stup.com for
information on getting free Internet access. The software required can
be downloaded and saved on a single diskette.
