RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - The new U.S. envoy to the Middle East condemned Palestinian militant car bombings that rocked Jerusalem Sunday and urged Palestinian President Yasser Arafat (news - web sites) to do everything possible to stop attacks....
The plan, named for former U.S. Senator George Mitchell who headed an inquiry into the violence, calls for an immediate end to fighting followed by confidence-building steps including a freeze on Jewish settlements and Palestinian steps to rein in militants.
"We had a constructive discussion with Chairman Arafat on how to implement the report and its call for an immediate and unconditional end to violence, rebuilding confidence and resuming negotiations," Burns said.
Palestinians demand a halt to all settlement building on occupied land, which is considered a violation of international law. Sharon has pledged that no new land will be confiscated but says construction will continue within existing settlements.
"We want to deal with the Mitchell report as a package. This is the approach. This report cannot be fragmented and we say again no party can be selective," Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters after the meeting....
He said Burns and Arafat would meet again Monday. (emphasis mine)

Why is it that we read the Book of Ruth -- the story of a Moabite woman who converted to Judaism and who eventually married a judge of Israel, Boaz -- on Shavuot, the holiday when we celebrate the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai?...
According to tradition, Shavuot is David's birthday as well as the day on which he passed away...
When God destroyed Sodom he saved Lot because of his two daughters. The daughters, believed that they and their father were the only people left on earth, engaged in acts of incest with him. As a result one gave birth to the progenitor of Moab, and the other to the progenitor of Amon. It would thus seem that Ruth was needed because she was a descendant of Lot? And who was Lot?
Now these are the chronicles of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor and Haran; and Haran begot Lot ... And Abram and Nahor took themselves wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milka, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milka and the father of Iscah. (Genesis 11:27-28)
Close examination of this passage reveals an astounding piece of information. It turns out that Haran, Abram's brother, was the grandfather of all of the most important Jewish women in history. The rabbis teach that Iscah was Sara (see Rashi Ibid), Rebecca was Milka's grand-daughter, and all of Jacob's wives were her great grand daughters. Lot was Haran's son and therefore Ruth was also a grand-daughter....
The conversion of Ruth made possible the recovery of the lost power of Haran required to bring about the birth of the Jewish kingdom, reflective of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth....
LOT'S MISTAKE CORRECTED
To emphasize the aspect of redemption involved in the establishment of the Jewish Kingdom, the marriage of Ruth to Boaz -- which ultimately resulted in the birth of David -- was a "levirated" marriage. This type of marriage is specifically mandated by the Torah as a means of recovering the soul that left the world without managing to produce any issue. Thus the entire purpose of Ruth's marriage was to ensure that the soul of her first husband Machlon who died -- and the spiritual power and greatness that was latent in it -- would not be lost to the world or to Israel.
The recovery of all this lost potential happened through the correction of Lot's error by his great-great-granddaughter Ruth.
Lot left Abraham over worldly possessions. After all, he was a believer himself, he knew the truth, he had learned how to serve God on his own, and he thought he did not need Abraham. As it was better for him in Sodom materially, and as he didn't perceive any spiritual necessity to remain with Abraham, he left. His error was that to serve God it is not enough to be aware of the absolute truth. You have to be attached to Him. The attachment to God comes about through the attachment to the Talmud Chacham. He should have stayed with Abraham....
Also, doesn't the temple have to be existing before the first day of the tribulation?
Those 10 days from Tishri 1 and 10 are called Days of Awe. Jews afflict their souls and repent so they will be accepted by God on the Day of Atonement. That is what the church should be doing now if they haven't already. There are 5 times in Jesus' messages to the churches in Revelation 2 and 3 that he tells them to repent. Only Smyrna and Philadelphia are not told to repent. That number 5 in Rev. 2 and 3 reminds me of the 5 foolish virgins in Mt. 25. They need to repent.
The church at Smyrna has overcomers that are martyrs. They leave here because of death. The Philadelphians (meaning brotherly love) are the living that go through the "open door" of Heaven in the Rapture. Only the Philadelphians are told that they will be kept from the trial that will come on all the Earth. They evidently have already repented. It seems that all the overcomers of each group have repented and are then funneled into the Philadelphian section to go through the "open door." All the overcomers seem to be in the Bride group.
Each of the 7 messages to the churches starts with part of the description of Christ seen in the Preview of the Rapture in Rev. 1. To Ephesus, Christ is he "that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks." That's appropriate, for Christ tells them to repent, "or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place." To Smyrna, Christ is "the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive." That is reassuring to the martyrs that they too can be resurrected. To Pergamos, Christ is "he which hath the sharp sword with two edges." That is appropriate, for Jesus says, "Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth." Again, it is repent, or else.
To Thyatira, Christ is "the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass." If a segment of that group doesn't repent, they will end up in the "great tribulation" when judgment falls. To Sardis, Christ is "he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars." Sardis seems to represent the sleeping Protestant churches of today. To them, Jesus commands, "BE WATCHFUL, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. IF THEREFORE THOU SHALT NOT WATCH, I WILL COME ON THEE AS A THIEF, AND THOU SHALT NOT KNOW WHAT HOUR I WILL COME UPON THEE. Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy." That is sad, only "a few names" are wearing white wedding garments. These churches have a wake-up day coming.
To Philadelphia (brotherly love), Jesus is "he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that OPENETH, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth." That is appropriate too. He says, "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee AN OPEN DOOR, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."
To the Laodiceans, Christ is "the Amen, the faithful and true witness." Amen means so be it. This group will face the closed door if they do not repent. It seems that those of all church groups that are not overcomers will end up funneled into this group and facing the closed door. Christ stands at the door and knocks. He wants to be part of their lives, but he is as if outside looking on. He wants to really know his Bride, be part of her daily life. These lukewarm ones are running low on oil for their lamps. He tells them, "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." I don't want to be rebuked or chastened. Therefore, I am zealous and repent.
Mt. 25:10-13 says of the 5 foolish virgins, "while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and THEY THAT WERE READY went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." I want to be among those that are ready. Agape
What a neat thing to see, doors opening. If the Rapture is "at hand," the "open door" set before the Philadelphians should be open now. James 5:9 says, "Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door." The Judge, Christ, may be standing at the door, picking the Bride, right now. We know that judgment begins at the house of God. I Peter 4:17 says, "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" Love to you and yours.
I also found Isa. 29:1-7 (AV) interesting. It says, "Woe to Ariel (means lion of God and is another name for Jerusalem), to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! ADD YE YEAR TO YEAR, LET THEM KILL SACRIFICES (first 3.5 years of the Tribulation) YET I WILL DISTRESS ARIEL, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel. And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee. And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, AS OF ONE THAT HATH A FAMILIAR SPIRIT, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust. Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it (the woe, the asteroid impacting the Mediterranean, Zeph. 2:4,5) shall be AT AN INSTANT SUDDENLY. Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with THUNDER, and with EARTHQUAKE, and GREAT NOISE, with STORM and TEMPEST, and the flame of devouring FIRE. And THE MULTITUDE OF ALL THE NATIONS THAT FIGHT AGAINST ARIEL, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, SHALL BE AS A DREAM OF A NIGHT VISION." Agape
You should know enough Hebrew to know that pluralisation is a form of honour. It does not mean literally plural.

Astronomy is the study of the heavenly bodies themselves. It is not astrology, where divination of the supposed effects of the stars upon human events is sought.
There is not a lot that can be known about the planet Rahab. It must have been hit with another rock and blown apart. Most of the pieces orbit in the Asteroid Belt. However, some pieces were blown into elongated cometary orbits. They cross the orbits of some planets. The ones called NEAs (Near Earth Asteroids) come close to the Earth.
All planets, moons and asteroids that we have been able to see in enough detail show that they have all been hit by rocks flying around in space. Mars must have been peppered badly. One side is very scarred. Many boulders and smaller angular shaped rocks dot the terrain. Most of her water seems to have been blown away. There are small water comets that hit our upper atmosphere daily. I wonder if that water could have come from Rahab or Mars.
I have more questions than answers. As for the dinosaurs, the chances are good that the asteroid that caused mass extinction at that time came from Rahab, but so far, there is no way to tell for sure. I hope the Lord will tell us more about those things when we get to Heaven. For now, we only have bits and pieces, a mere echo of what happened. This is because the Bible only covers about 7000 years of time. It does hint of what went before and what comes afterward, but that is all. If we needed to know now, God would have told us.
Right now, what we should study is how to be sure we are wise Philadelphian virgins that will go with the Bridegroom when he comes for us. We should take to heart II Peter 1:4-11 and I John 1:9. We should acquaint ourselves with the Bible prophecies concerning the end of this age so we will recognize fulfillments. We are living in momentous times. Prophecies are being fulfilled right before our eyes. Many would have liked to live in our days. In this ballgame, we should make the most of our time up at bat. These days won't be rerun.
Paul said that we were running a race. We should get our priorities straight and run the race to win the prize. In Phil. 3:14, Paul said, "I press toward the mark (skopos, the mark or goal one is striving toward) for the prize (brabeion, award to the victor in the game) of the high (ano, upward, above, on high, of the heavenly quarters) calling (klesis, a call, INVITATION TO A FEAST) of God in Christ Jesus." The "high calling" is when Christ says, "Come up hither" (Rev. 4:1). The victor is the overcomer that will be part of the Bride group.
This invitation to a feast sounds like the invitation to the wedding feast in Mt. 22:9-14. In that parable, Jesus gave us some excellent advise. He said, "Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness (outside the door), there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen."
We want to be chosen. The Bride group is chosen. At the beginning of the Tribulation, Rev. 17:14 says, "he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that ARE WITH HIM are called, and chosen, and faithful." We ARE with him when the 6th head of the great red dragon is in power, and the 7th head, the False Prophet, has not yet come. When the Beast (6th head) comes to full power, we are already in Heaven. Rev. 13:6 says, "he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and THEM THAT DWELL IN HEAVEN." We need to make sure we are in that group in Heaven when the Beast rides forth on a white horse as a prince of peace when the first seal is broken to start the Tribulation. This man has a "bow" (toxon, plain fabric) to show us that he is a man of the cloth, a religious leader. He is given a crown, " and he went forth conquering (nikao) and to conquer (nikao)."
In Jesus' messages to the ekklesia, called out ones, he told the church of Ephesus, "this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the NICOLAITANS, which I ALSO HATE." He repeated it to the ecclesia of Pergamos, saying, "So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the NICOLAITANS, WHICH THING I HATE. REPENT; OR ELSE I WILL COME UNTO THEE QUICKLY, AND WILL FIGHT AGAINST THEM WITH THE SWORD OF MY MOUTH. HE THAT HATH AN EAR, LET HIM HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT SAITH UNTO THE CHURCHES."
Nicolaitans is from nikao (to conquer) and laos (the people, the laity). It is the rise of the priests, cardinals and the Pope to rule over the people, the laity.
All believers are priests. This precious right has been ignored by the hierarchy that has been set up. Christ is our High Priest, no one else. I Peter 2:5 says, "YE ALSO, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, AN HOLY PRIESTHOOD, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ."
In Mt. 23:8,9, Jesus said, "be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ." His warning has gone unheeded by many. He is God, and means what he says. Why has his warning been ignored?
We are approaching the Feast of Pentecost (May 28). Will this be when Christ will come for his bride? Will we then join John in saying that the Lord Jesus Christ "HATH MADE us kings and priests unto GOD AND HIS FATHER" (Rev. 1:6). That is in the Preview of the Rapture. Rev. 5:10 is after the Rapture. It says that he "HAST MADE us unto our God kings and priests." At this point, the Rapture is past. How long do we have before we are at that point? Agape
