ONEIDA FAMILY
I am a Wisconsin Oneida Nation tribal member.
This is my site to showcase some of my family tree and the ancestors who comprise it.
I am very proud of my family history and I hope that others may learn from it, and about the contributions of the Oneidas to this great country of ours.
The Oneida are one of the original Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. Our homelands were located in present-upstate New York near Oneida Lake. Our name for ourselves is-On^yote'Aka or "The People of the Standing Stone."
Our tribe was composed of three clans; Turtle, Wolf and Bear. We originally lived in Longhouses, which were led by the oldest women in the family. We are a matrilineal people and women were important leaders. We were also agriculturalists.
Every tree has roots and so does every family.
I will begin at my roots as far back as I can go.
