I have never been there myself, although I have a very dear friend in Barnaul. Even though she lives in Siberia, her spring comes much earlier than ours does here in Maine. Of course Barnaul isn't all that far from Kazakhstan, but most of my friends think that all of Siberia is a cold barren tundra.
Well, since I have never been there, I thought I would put some links on this page to some very special websites which I have discovered so you can learn about the beauty of Russia East of the Urals.
I have just started these pages, and will be looking up more links. When they start to get crowded I will add each area to it's own page. I have found a lot of great sites about Irkutsk and Vladivostok, and eventually I will have more links to them here, although all of them can be found from the links below. In the meantime, if you know of any sites about other areas of Russia's Far East which contain a lot of information and photographs of that area, please leave the URL in my guestbook. Thankyou
East of Russia contains links to sites about everything from history to literature to business in the Vladivostok area.
This site has lots of information about Irkutsk and Lake Baikal, and much of it is in English.
Here is a great link for information and an index of sites about Irkutsk and Lake Baikal. It is in Russian, but it works with Win1251.
Here is a very interesting site by Alexander Krivenyshev from Vladivostok. He is a scientist and has made many voyages around the world (including to Antartica) on research vessels. You can read about his travels as well as about the city of Vladivostok on his web pages.
