    Luke 18:15-34
    Isn't this an endorsement of a works based salvation?
    Is there a misunderstanding of some sort?
    What about Ephesians 2:8,9, Titus 3?
     
     
    v15 The insensitivity of the disciples.
    They spoke out of turn, and not only their words, but the tone of their voice is evident.
    v16 Jesus called them, the disciples, aside privately, not in front of the children and their parents.
    v16,17 "of people like these children"
    "as a child"
    We have to demonstrate the same kind of simple faith a child demonstrates.
    Particularly note 2 Timothy 3:15 - "from a baby". The word here means a child even not yet born, still in the womb.
    v18 The young rulers question
    "Good Master" and appeal to Jesus as lord, not Lord
    v19 Jesus acknowledges He is God
    • the ruler may have been meaning "relative" good
    • the answer Jesus gives identifies "absolute" good
    • Jesus acknowledges he is good and therefore that he is God. Jesus does not deflect the mans question, but amplifies it (Job 1:1)
    v20 Jesus quotes the Law
    Note that the order is  7 - 6 - 8 - 9 - 5
    • from most heinous to least - at least in mans eyes
    • the first 4 commandments, about God's relationship with man are missing. This man's relationship with God is non-existent, so Jesus points out how we are supposed to live with man
    • "Thou shalt not covet" is missing. Why? Because Jesus wanted to point out where this man failed - a relative perfection. This now becomes the test case for this man.
    v22 - 24 The covetousness (the attitude of the heart) is now addressed
    James 2:10 - the good deeds do not outweigh the bad. If one point is missed all is missed. Zero tolerance
    v24 - 28 He came very sincere, he left very sorrowful
    v25 The camel through the needles eye. What does this mean?
    • Maybe there is a misspelling in the Greek?
    • There is this gate ...
    No - Jesus is taking the largest commonly known item and the smallest commonly known hole and giving that as analogy
    v26 - 27 Salvation has to be a divine work
    v28 We have done this - What shall we have in return?
    v29 - 30 The answer
    v31 - 34 The need for a suffering savior
    This is the essence of salvation from our Lord's perspective
    v34 They were not "not saved", they were blinded, the truth was hidden from them
