Sin on the part of a brother

Approach -- personal - one on one; private - two or three witnesses who may or not be aware of the sin but that may be made aware of the issue and for accountability; public - before the church

Goal -- restoration

Issue -- Defiance

Ultimate resolution -- view as though he were a heathen and a tax-collector

Romans 16:17,18
Sin: Division
Procedure: Mark & avoid

Problem -- divisions and offenses

Standard -- "alongside the doctrine you learned"

Procedure -- mark ("scope") and avoid (decline)

They are really slaves to their appetites and deceivers of the unsuspecting.

1Cor 5:9
Sin: Deviation
Procedure: Removal

• The issue = immorality and "conduct unbecoming a Christian"
• The procedure: removal from membership

2Thess 3
Sin: Disorderliness
Procedure: Pull back; note/withdraw
Verses 6 and 14

• Procedure: pull back; mark and do not associate with him
• the issue = disorderly walk contrary to the teaching of scripture
• Associated problem: busybody

Titus 3
Sin: doctrine
Procedure:

• The issue – "heresy" (doctrine and divisive)
• The procedure -- admonition, then ejection
• The truth -- he is detouring his life and sinning being independent from God's word
