Anticipating
Interruptions by Cathy Vinson |

One late
evening, I anxiously waited for my husband to arrive home. Because of the
uncomfortableness brought about by my anticipation, I realized some things about a wait.
Anticipation can almost become a nuisance. In this case, any train of thought or lapse
into sleep was easily interrupted by every passing car that might be him. Anything that
was going on with me was obviously not as important as his return. As more time lapsed,
the active wait not only carried interruptions, but also a tension.
I wondered if this is how a true wait looks. Not only longing, but because of desire,
there is the easy pulling of attention from whatever is at hand...a continual
"distraction."
This must be true of Christians. We have to accept the tensions of interruption if we are
those who long for Jesus' appearing. Our children or grandchildren growing into adulthood,
our coming vacation plans, our retirement, our wedding: awareness and acceptance of
interruption into all these things is the testimony that we are strangers on
earth...LONGING for a better country, a heavenly country" (Heb 11:13,14,16).
Are we in a TRUE wait--one with longing and anticipation for His appearing? The integrity
of our hearts is revealed by our willingness for interruption. "All my ways need a
break so I can rise with You"
