But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.
Job 16:5 (NIV)
For I am
Convinced by Cathy Vinson |
Paul was convinced. Because the evidence was sufficient, he had reached a conviction. This conviction was established within him, for he had been "acted upon, prevailed upon, won over; he had a change of mind brought about by the influence of reason or moral consideration" (Vine's Greek Dict.). What had acted upon Paul? and prevailed? The love of God! "For I am convinced that ...(nothing)...can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!" Experience by experience, he had laid hold of a willing yet even more willing God to love him. Or, more accurately, his expanding faith opened up more of God's willingness as he beheld the power in His love. His conviction had everything to do with GROWING in faith. God's pervading love had provided all the evidence and substance needed (Heb 11:1). A matured faith can say "I am convinced..." Are we becoming more convinced? Are we being shown His love is more and more willing and able to pervade "all things"? Perhaps we really need to grow in faith until we are convinced. "To firmly anchor the experiencing of God and knowing His will, you must be absolutely convinced of His love for you." (Henry Blackaby). |
