Bubba's Bedtime Story For
The Children Who Wonder "Why?"
Once upon a time there was a world filled only with children.
The children were born, got married and had other children,
But no one ever really grew up.
Soon after the children had children, they would die.
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And most wondered, "Is this all there is?"
The children wanted most of all, to be happy,
But they mostly weren't.
This is because they thought happiness came mainly from having fun things and doing fun things,
(and also having the admiration or jealousy of others accordingly).
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And they all wondered, "Why aren't I happy?
Those who had the most stuff, and did the most fun things were
the most admired, and the most envied.
Those who didn't have much, imitated and sometimes worshiped those who did, which enabled those who did have much, to have even more.
They also thought that the best way or only way to have more was to take it away from others.
Those who were able to get the most from others, without making anybody yell, were highly admired and imitated.
This was difficult, so some took it by deception and some by force, but they were punished, sometimes.
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And many thought, "With more stuff, I could have been happy."
Some wanted to get more by telling others what to do, but no one wanted to be told what to do.
However, no one wanted to take the blame for anything, so they
allowed a few to give orders so that the few could be blamed for
everything.
So the many blamed the few. And the few blamed each other, but
got more stuff and did fun things by doing nothing but talking
about change.
But nothing ever really changed much. The hate, the crime, the violence and the wars continued in every generation.
Generation after generation of children were born and died.
And they all hated lawyers, but thought, "More laws will
fix everything."
And they all hated politics, but thought, "Politicians can
bring us peace."
There was a story about how the children came to exist,
But it was a long time ago and few believed it, and most didn't really care anyway.
There was a story about a man who was born to fix everything wrong in the world,
But that was also a long time ago and some believed it, but most didn't believe anything.
Generation after generation of children were born and died.
And some wondered, "Is there a God?"
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And some wondered, "What is man?".
And one of the children said, "Monkeys are smart. I look like a monkey. Therefore the monkey is my grandfather."
And one of the children said, "I am getting progressively smarter. Therefore the slime, the amoeba and the worm are my ultimate grandfathers."
And one of the children said, "I am the smartest. Therefore I have no ultimate grandfather."
And one of the children said, "Nothing exists beyond what we see. Therefore I am my own grandfather."
And one of the children contemplated his navel and said, "I only exist in my own mind."
And one of the children consumed materials that allowed his mind to escape reality and said, "Altering my brain is fun."
And one of the children dressed in robes and said, "I know your ultimate grandfather, God, and he told me to take your money."
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And some wondered, "Why is there Evil?"
And the children said, "We are good, mostly." But the world was full of suffering, and evil and injustice.
And one of the children said, "It's not my fault. It's my environment. It's the children who have the most stuff. It's the children who are in charge.
But most were too busy trying to be happy, to care "Why?".
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And
some wondered, "What is the meaning of life?"
And one of the children said, "He who dies with the most stuff, wins."
And one of the children said, "Life is a popularity contest."
But most of the children were too busy trying to be happy, to care "What?".
Generation after generation of children were born and died. And
some wondered, "What happens after death?
And one of the children said, "There is a God, I'm okay, and you are going to burn forever in Hell."
And one of the children said, "There is a God, I'm okay, and you will be reborn as a cow."
And one of the children said, "There is a God, and I'm okay because I'm going to kill you, and go live with virgins."
And one of the children said, "There is no God, because those other three are idiots."
And David asked God, "What is man that you remember him?
and the son of man, that you pay attention to him?" (Psa. 8:4).
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was
only evil continually.
And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and
it grieved him at his heart," (Gen 6:5-6).
" . . . Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he
find faith on the earth?" (Luk 18:8).
"But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of
the Son of man be.
For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating
and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered
into the ark,
And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so
shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Mat.
24:37-39).
"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall
awake,
some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
(Dan 12:2).
"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you,
that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and
your children may live:" (Deu 30:19).
"Obtain the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction,
and understanding." (Pro 23:23).
" . . . give me understanding, and I shall live." (Psa. 119:114).
Once upon a time, in the future, the world will be filled with children, playing safely in the streets,
And the children are born, get married and grow old (Zech. 8:3-5).
And the children are finally happy, and they do not die (Rev 21:4).
And the children will wonder, "Why didn't everyone believe?"
(Eze. 33:11).
