The Top 20 Reasons Why A True Prophet of God Would Be Stoned Today
Things we learned from being on ex-wcg/cog forums:
A. There are some really nice people out there. Some of them are deeply converted as evidenced by their words and behavior.
B. There are some other folks out there too.
C. Prophets are Presumed Phalse: Voluntary Blindness As A "Woogie"
The top 20 reasons why "A Genuine, God-Certified, Holy Spirit-Ordained Prophet From God" would still be stoned, crucified, or at least "flamed", by both the "mainstream Christian" and "Ex-wcg/cog" communities. We didn't make these up. They were all stated, in all seriousness, on ex-wcg forums. The fallacy is addressed in parentheses. The Top 20 Reasons:
20) "Since God didn't reveal your message to me too, you must be a fake."
(Messengers aren't needed if everyone gets the message at the same time. Mat. 13:17)19) "If you aren't showing fruit of the Holy Spirit in all areas of your life, you must be a fake." (Only Christ was perfect. Everyone else had personal problems and sins. Rom. 3:23, 1Jn. 1:10)
18) "Since no real prophets have appeared lately, you can't be one either."
(Circular logic which becomes self-fulfilling. 2 Pet. 3:1-18)17) "Since I don't believe you or agree with you, your dreams make you the victim of an over-active imagination and you suffer from illusions of grandeur."
(If you are the "end of all wisdom" Job 12:2, you probably don't need the Bible either.)16) "You're probably just suffering from a desire for self-promotion. Reject the dreams." (That's how Jacob and his other sons felt about Joseph's dreams. Gen. 37:1-11)
15) "I've had true angelic experiences, but you're just dreaming up dreams."
(So, you're saying: "My paranormal experiences are more real than yours are. Nanny, nanny, boo, boo!" ? 2 Cor. 10:12)14) "Everyone else is unrighteous, so you must be also."
(Absolutely, just like the prophets, we have "all sinned". Rom. 3:23. That doesn't change the dreams or the messages.)13) "My concept of Biblical prophecies haven't been fulfilled yet, so you're too early to be a true prophet, and your dreams are also too early to fit my understanding."
("they were eating and drinking . . . and knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of man be." Mat. 24:38-39)12) "A true prophet will have knowledge of everything including my personal life. I was adopted. Do you know who my real father is? Any true prophet would know this. Do you know what I'm thinking right now?"
(Do you really want God to reveal the details of your personal life to another human? You are confusing "true prophet" with "perfect prophet". Christ was the only perfect human. All the other prophets were only imperfect humans, none of whom had "knowledge of everything".)11) "True prophecies will only be about "a warning" or "a call to repentance". "End of the world" prophecies can only be uttered by "official" prophets."
(Apparently someone hasn't read all the prophecies in scripture or considered who delivered them. See "Who In The Hall Is A Prophet?" under "Dead Prophets...")10) "God is democratic, therefore we'll all get the message at the same instant."
(We could only hope, and pray that the message would come to all. But historically, this hasn't happened, which is why God sends "messengers". Amos 3:7 And although God is not a respecter of persons, he never proclaims himself as "democratic".)9) "Unless it's something new and important, it is not of God."
(Be sure to let God know his limitations, lest he do some new thing. Also contradicts No. 10 above. 2Kings 6:1-7)8) "Unless it's already written in scripture or agrees perfectly with my understanding of scripture, it's not of God."
(Then no prophecy can exist, not even the Bible. Also contradicts No. 9 above. Mark 1:27, John 13:34)7) "I don't care if you had dreams and visions, just preach the doctrines. Sure, it's entertaining, but stick to developing Godly character and forget the dreams."
(Someone should have told Jeremiah and the others.)6) "Since some Aborigines in Australia's outback haven't heard about "footwashing" yet (Jn. 13:1-17), Christ can't return yet."
(If we apply this to the newborns, and those as yet, unborn, then Christ can never return.)5) "If everyone else believed it or was doing it, then I might believe it. As soon as true prophets show up, then I'll believe that you're having dreams."
(Be sure to check their ID's and to get your peer group's approval rating for them. And, "If everyone else jumped off a bridge . . .? Luke 6:26)4) "Just write down your dreams and keep them to yourself, until after they happen, then tell us that you knew all along."
(Only if we wanted jobs with the tabloid newspapers.)3) "I will tell you when and if God has chosen you to dream dreams or see visions, or be a prophet. I don't care what God told you, you're not a prophet unless I agree that you're a prophet."
(So, God checks with you before he does anything???).2) "I have discernment, therefore, you don't."
(Does your mother know you talk like this?)And the Number One reason why a prophet would be stoned by the ex-wcg/cog:
1) "Yeah, call it indigestion, bad pizza, self-delusion, lust for fame, or a need for prozac, but we all know that you really have a demon problem."
(Compare Mat. 12:24, John 15:14-21).
