Nitrate Studies in Betrand Creek
Conducted by students attending Lynden High School
The Independent Study student and soon the Advanced Chemistry students at Lynden High School are conducting studies of the nitrate levels in various places in Betrand Creek, and factors contributing to these levels. This study is being done to determine if nitrate levels are a problem in the creek, and if so what can be done about them. Students from Western Washington University, and also Mt. Baker High School are conducting similar tests in different areas of Whatcom County. The project started at the beginning of the 1997-1998 school year, and will be continued for an indefinite time period.
This page will include: a description of the study that preceded actual sampling, a description of the sampling method used, information and pictures about the areas of the stream being sampled, a general timeline of testing (including stream and weather conditions during the time the samples were taken), data obtained from samples, conclusions based on data, links to other resources, and information about the people involved in the project.
