Baptism

A Poem by Laurence David Sterling III

I'm not sure, I may miss my old life. Be still child, you'll like your new life better. This robe is not my style, I don't want anyone to see me like this. It looks good on you, there is another robe for you on the other side. The stairs are steep, I may fall. I will hold your hand, I will not let you fall. The water is cold and deep, will I drown? I have you my child, relax in my hands. Here I go! I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen! The Holy Spirit be upon you, child of God, disciple of Christ, our sister. The water was not cold, I feel warm all over. You ascend in freedom. I put on the new white robe, symbolic of a new life full of hope, purity and joy Welcome into the assembly of the saints, the community of faith. I look forward to my new life, full of infinite possibilities Go in Peace. Praise be to God!
