Flood

(Unexpected Grief)

A Poem by Laurence David Sterling III

The rains came swiftly, And the river overflowed its banks, Cutting me off from life on the other side. It was an unexpected occurence given the weather forecasts. Just the other day, The people in town Were commenting on the beautiful weather. Today, we are divided by the swelling roar. I did not intend to live on an island, Nor, to be cut off. It just happened one day, When the rains came swiftly, And the river overflowed its banks, Cutting me off from life on the other side.
