Eoin O'Seaghdha'
Och, Eoin. Werre Guild's hound. So you wish to know about the mad Celt, aye? Well, from my lips to God's ears, as they say. Eoin was born the third son of a minor chieftain in Munster. When it became apparent that his two older brothers were not going to die, Eoin, like a great many others was sent away to a monastery. There he remained for a number of years, learning to read and write, and developing his interest in illumination. However, his destiny was not in the Church. When the wars broke out and the great Brian Boru put forth his call for men, Eoin was inspired and left the order. His appeal to his father granted him arms and equipment, and he soon joined Boru's band. lt was here where his true gifts were needed. Being able to read and write, he soon became indispensable as a clerk in Boru's command. Certainly he saw his share of fighting, but he was valued more for his other skills. On a raid to Brittany with his brothers in arms, a daring raid brought back spoils and slaves. Among those taken was a lovely Briton lass named Elspeth. It was obvious to everyone that the scholarly warrior was taken with her. Unfortunately, she belonged to the man who stole her, an intemperate lout named Cei. It seemed the star crossed lovers were not to be. But sometimes one must trust to God. The brute who stole her was one night discovered in a hedge row, knifed several times in the back. In payment of gambling debts, Eoin claimed Elspeth as his own. Suspicions were naturally aroused. However, the lady had been known to have a wicked temper of her own, punctuating her displeasure with her own knife, and since he married her shortly thereafter, it was thought best to simply let the matter drop. Today, Eoin still serves in Boru's army, working in the command structure copying messages and keeping his sword sharp, his lady Elspeth by his side. Still has her own knife too.
