I'm Baron Steffan ap Kennydd, and I live in the SCA's East Kingdom. I'm originally from the canton of The Towers, which is part of the barony of Carolingia. .

I now live in the barony of the Bridge (Rhode Island). My lady is Countess Elspeth Keyfe of Neddingham, Baroness Bridge. No, that doesn't mean I'm Baron Bridge; I'm a Court Baron. It's less than a landed baronage, but more than just honorary.

A monochrome JPEG portrait of Elspeth and me. (From 1984, I believe....)

I fought heavy-list for 17 years. Here I am in armor, with my lady at the Pennsic War.

That's me at the right, with then-Princess Elspeth and some of her entourage at Pennsic 25.

Elspeth being invested as Crown Princess by Prince Lucan, in the presence of King Bjorn and Queen Morgen.

The Shepherds Crook Herald maintains the Order of Precedence of the East.

"Parker's Glossary" is an illustrated dictionary of heraldry, which is now online. You can search the entire book here:

The arms of all the branches of the East Kingdom, thanks to the good folks at Wishford Hall.

The arms of all the Kings and Queens of the East. (Thanks again to Wishford Hall.)

The medieval re-creation of the SCA is governed by the body of rules known
as the Corpora.

The Company of St. Michael the Defender, or of the Balance is a tourneying company within the SCA. They research and recreate authentic tournament styles with much pageantry. Here's a picture of tourneyers fighting at the barrier at a pas d'armes at Pennsic.

The Provost's Handbook is a reference for college-based SCA chapters, which also contains a good deal of material on holding public SCA demonstrations.

Silverwing's Laws
Over the years, I've been collecting a "Murphy's Laws" list for the
SCA. I've never actually written them down until now. Some of these
are original, most aren't. If you have additions or attributions, email me.

Non SCA Medieval Links

Very many SCA members are interested in the cultures of the Celtic world.
This site claims to have links to "Everything Celtic on the Web", and they may be right!

The Khazars were a nation in central Asia that converted to Judaism around 800 CE. They were a very powerful people in their time, as a buffer state between the Byzantines and the Persians. A fascinating persona for SCA folk to explore.

Medieval Scenarios and Recreations (MSR) is another medieval historical recreation society. They are based in the New York City metropolitan area.

The Labyrinth is a server at Georgetown University dealing in medieval studies.

The Preceptory is a source for information on the Knights Templars.

The Viking 1000 Project is sailing a replica Viking-era ship.

The Tres Riches Heures of the Duke de Berri is an exquisite example of Medieval art.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.

This page sometimes shows a duplicate Shakespeare link. I have no idea why it's there: it isn't in the HTML. Any web-geeks out there wanna gimme a clue? 1
