Peace is an Old Testament Concept

Modern Christianity presents Moses as non-forgiving and Jesus as all-forgiving. This is not the truth. Not only do Moses and the Father always desire to forgive but many times Jesus and the Father do not forgive . God's forgiveness comes with man's repentance while man's defiance to the will of God always walks hand in hand with unforgiveness and destruction.

The greatest act of love, in the history of man, is the life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. The second most powerful act of love, in the history of man, is Moses at Mount Sinai. Here are the events that happened that day.

Moses came down Mt Sinai with God's ten commandments. He carried with him the commandment to love God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength and with all your soul. He carried with him the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself. He carried with him the commandment 'Thou Shalt not kill'.

Then Moses kills three thousand of his country men for the sake of peace. Though Moses reproves his fellow man by the sword he carries no grudge, vengeance or violence in his heart for his fellow man. Moses, as peacemaker, leads Levite troops into combat against a faction of Israelites who, through sin, are at war against God. Then Moses turns the other cheek and offers up his very eternal soul to make peace between God and those Israelites who have hated Him. Here is Moses great love for fellow man.

EXO 32:7

With that, the LORD said to Moses, "Go down at once to your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, for they have become depraved. They have soon turned aside from the way I pointed out to them, making for themselves a molten calf and worshiping it, sacrificing to it and crying out, 'This is your God, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt!' I see how stiffnecked this people is," continued the LORD to Moses. "Let me alone, then, that my wrath may blaze up against them to consume them. Then I will make of you a great nation."

But Moses implored the LORD, his God, saying, "Why, O LORD, should your wrath blaze up against your own people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with such great power and with so strong a hand? Why should the Egyptians say, 'With evil intent he brought them out, that he might kill them in the mountains and exterminate them from the face of the earth'? Let your blazing wrath die down; relent in punishing your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, and how you swore to them by your own self, saying, 'I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky; and all this land that I promised, I will give your descendants as their perpetual heritage.'" So the LORD relented in the punishment he had threatened to inflict on his people.

Moses then turned and came down the mountain with the two tablets that were written on both sides, front and back; tablets that were made by God, having inscriptions on them that were engraved by God himself.

"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is out God, the LORD alone! Therefore you shall love the LORD, you God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.

When Moses realized that, to the scornful joy of their foes, Aaron had let the people run wild, he stood at the gate of the camp and cried, "Whoever is for the Lord, let him come to me!" All the Levites then rallied to him, and he told them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Put your sword on your hip everyone of you! Now go up and down the camp, from gate to gate, and slay your own kinsmen, your friends and neighbors!" The Levites carried out the command of Moses, and theat day there fell about three thousand of the people. Then Moses said, "Today you have been dedicated to the LORD, for you were against your own sons and kinsmen, to bring a blessing upon yourselves this day."

"Blest too the peacemakers; they shall be called sons of God."

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

NAB LUK 12:51

"Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? I assure you, the contrary is true; I have come for division. From now on, a household of five will be divided three against two and two against three; father will be split against son and son against daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

Moses did not die for our sins but he did make peace between God and the Israelites. Second only to Jesus Christ, Moses turns the other cheek and offers up his very eternal soul to rescue the Israelites who wish him harm.

EXO 32 continued. The Atonement.

On the next day Moses said to the people, "You have committed a grave sin. I will go up to the LORD, then; perhaps I may be able to make atonement for your sin." So Moses went back to the LORD and said, "Ah, this people has indeed committed a grave sin in making a god of gold for themselves! If you would only forgive their sin! If you will not, then strike me out of the book that you have written."

When they came to Skull Place, as it was called, they crucified him there and the criminals as well, one on his right and the other on his left. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing."

Though Moses offers up his own soul for the forgiveness of sins, God does not allow it. Suffering for the Atonement of sin is a position reserved for Jesus Christ.

God tells Moses that He will not strike his name out of the eternal book of life. It is only the wicked who do not repent who will not enter into Christ's peace.

"The victor will thus be dressed in white, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name in the presence of my Father and of his angels.

God's eternal book of those who live eternally.

EXO 32 continued.

The LORD answered, "Him only who has sinned against me will I strike out of my book. Now, go and lead the people whither I have told you. My angel will go before you. When it is time for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin." Thus the LORD smote the people for having had Aaron make the calf for them.

Meanwhile he said to the woman, "Your faith has been your salvation. Now go in peace."

David slew Goliath. The way David killed Goliath was that God was with David. David's faith and love for God is almost always accomplished through his actions of killing on the battle field.

NAB 1SA 17:38

David continued: "The LORD, who delivered me from the claws of the lion and the bear, will also keep me safe from the clutches of this Philistine." Saul answered David, "Go! the LORD will be with you.

1SA 17:38...//...1SA 17:48 The Philistine then moved to meet David at close quarters, while David ran quickly toward the battle line in the direction of the Philistine. David put his hand into the bag and took out a stone, hurled it with the sling, and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone embedded itself in his brow, and he fell prostrate on the ground. (Thus David overcame the Philistine with sling and stone; he struck the Philistine mortally, and did it without a sword.) Then David ran and stood over him; with the Philistines own sword (which he drew from its sheath) he dispatched him and cut off his head.

NAB 2SA 5:19

The LORD replied to David, "Attack, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your grip." ... "The LORD has scattered my enemies before me like waters that have broken free."

NAB 2SA 8:13

On his return, David became famous for having slain eighteen thousand Edomites in the Salt Valley; after which he placed garrisons in Edom. Thus all the Edomites became David's subjects, and the LORD brought David victory in all his undertakings.

Then David sins. He commits adultery. Bathsheba gets pregnant so king David orders that Uriah, Bathsheba's husband, a soldier under David's command, to be put where the fighting is heaviest. Uriah dies in battle and David marries Bathsheba.

Nathan, God's prophet, comes to David and basically says why have you broken the commandment 'Thou shalt not kill'? Does David say, "It was not by my hand that Uriah died?" Does David say, "I have killed tens of thousands on the battlefield, why do you ask me this only now?" No, David admits his guilt in breaking the command of God. Breaking the commandment thou shalt not kill is done in the heart, not on a battlefield.

Why have you spurned the LORD and done evil in his sight? You have cut down Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you took his wife as your own, and him you killed with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah to be your wife.'

Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan answered David: "The LORD on his part has forgiven your sin: you shall not die."

There is a man shooting children on a playground. There is a police man shooting the man who is shooting the children. Two identical actions yet one man is doing a tremendous act of love and one man is doing a tremendous act of hate. It is the anger, hatred and uncaring in the heart that makes killing murder.

NAB MAT 5:21

"You have heard the commandment imposed on your forefathers, ‘You shall not commit murder; every murderer shall be liable to judgement.' What I say to you is: everyone who grows angry with his brother shall be liable to judgement;..."

Police, Vatican guards or troops using lethal force to protect us is God's Will.

NAB LEV 19:16

"...nor shall you stand by idly when your neighbors life is at stake. I am the LORD."

When ever Peter leaves home he straps his sword to his side. In other words, when Pope Benedict XVI goes out publicly, he has with him armed security people prepared to use lethal force to protect him. Vatican City has armed Italian police who use even lethal force to protect its inhabitants. This is Jesus will.

NAB LUK 22:35

"...And the man without a sword must sell his coat and buy one."

Peter, here is your spiritual sword. Please strap it on and use it to deter spiritual crimes against Christ's Church. Do not let any personal pacifist preference stand in the way of fulfilling Christ's will. Use Christ's sword to serve, protect and defend Jesus' people on earth as Jesus wills you to.

NAB MAT 18:17

"If your brother should commit some wrong against you, go and point out his fault, but keep it between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. If he does not listen, summon another, so that every case may stand on the word of two or three witnesses. If he ignores them, refer it to the church . If he ignores even the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. I assure you, whatever you declare bound on earth shall be held bound in heaven, and whatever you declare loosed on earth shall be held loosed in heaven."

"I for my part assign to you the dominion my Father has assigned to me. In my kingdom you will eat and drink at my table, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."

NAB MAT 4:17

"The kingdom of heaven is at hand."

This weapon that Jesus has given you, Peter, is a million times more deadly than all the superpower might on earth. The keys to Gehenna, the power to hold sins bound, that Christ has given you, Peter, is Superior fire power in any age. It would be very foolish to think that Jesus would give you such a powerful sword and then not wish for you to use it to protect his flock. Please Peter, we beg of you, draw Christ's sword and wield it upon the foe. Take a spiritual eye for a fleshly eye. Stand and defend Jesus' people on earth.

A good shepard destroys the wolf to protect his Master's sheep. The Master has left you, Peter, his own staff. The very staff that was given to him by his Father. My advice to you is, "The wolves are in the sheep barn. Take the Master's shot gun from your mantel, wipe the dust from it and lock n'load and throw some stones. Stand and defend Christ's flock from the wild animals of the world today."

In your old age, Peter, there are many wolves who have bound your hands and carried you off against your will. There are even ravenous wolves in catholic bishop's and catholic priest's clothing who come to devour Christ's sheep. The time has come to pull out Christ's sword and smash the shackles and chains of these marauders who walk the path of Korah (NUM 16). There is no greater biblical display of God's wrath than when He defends the unifying authority of His Church from Korah. Peter, if you love Jesus, tend his sheep.

NAB JOH 21:16 Peter the Shepherd.

A second time he put his question, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" "Yes, Lord," Peter said, "you know that I love you." Jesus replied, "Tend my sheep."

NAB JOH 21:18

"I tell you solemnly:
as a young man
you fastened your belt
and went about as you pleased;
but when you are older
you will stretch out your hands,
and another will tie you fast
and carry you off against your will."

Upon the second coming of Christ he will come down from heaven to meet his Bride. If Christ finds his Bride with her dress torn, her face beaten and two thirds of her body gone, he will be very sad. With tears in his eyes, Jesus will call for you Peter. Jesus will say to you Peter, "Make an account of yourself. When the sons of Satan attacked my Bride, where were you and how did my sword work when you fought against the foe?" If Peter says, "Here Lord, here is your sword that you gave me. I have never even taken it out of the box, nor is there even one scratch on it for I have never carried it into battle." I for one would not want to be in Peter's shoes should this time occur. Draw Christ's sword, Peter, and protect and defend Christ's Bride as He told you to.

On the other hand, some people, like the Pharisees, feel that they are God's righteous people on earth. They feel that it is they who must pour out God's wrath on sinners by stoning them to death. Jesus is very clear to the judgmental self-righteous. "Let the man among you who has no sin be the first to cast a stone at her."
