Place Names and Locations for my Family History, including Polish/German village names
NACHTIGALL: The Nachtigall family was in Finckenstein or Finkenstein, Rosenberg, Preussen (Prussia), Germany, which is now Kamieniec, Olsztyn, Poland. They were in Rosenberg, Preussen, Germany, which is now Susz, Olsztyn, Poland. Karl August NACHTIGALL was born in Gross Albrechtau, Finkenstein, Rosenberg, Prussia (Preussen), Germany, which is now Olbrachtowo, Olsztyn, Poland. Susz, Olbrachtowo and Kamieniec form a triangle about 80 kilometers southeast of Gdansk (Danzig), Poland, in an area known as "the Land of a Thousand Lakes". Click to go to a map of the Kamieniec area
For an 1882 map of this part of Prussia, try this web site (look slightly below and to the right of the "A" in "West Prussia")KORTH
The KORTH and JOSEPHSKI families are from Sandberg, Prussia (Preussen), Germany, which is probably *Piaski, Poland, about 40 kilometers southeast of Gdansk. (shown at the top of the map above)
*there are 3-4 "Sandberg, Germany" cities; Piaski seems the most likely because of its closeness to where the Nachtigal family was from.
If you have any questions, or can provide any information about any of these villages/cities, please e-mail me at confwriter@writeme.com
