Critique IV

4D Critique

In this critique, we were require to show such concepts as time and motion with our prints. Additionally, we were expected to have acquired a proficiency at printing in the darkroom. Here's some of the stuff we did with this one.

Alicia......Sean

It was this critique, in particular, I believe, that made me want to take another semester of photography. Suddenly, I had all sorts of ideas about projects. This assignment made us all think about that "other" aspect of photography, the realm in which the artist is able to express abstract ideas. This made me happy :)

I agree with Sean. The motion aspect of the assignment didn't really do anything for me, but it led to another, greater, realization. During the past several months of enrollment in this course, there is a definite correlation between the overall quality of my images and the state of mind in which they were shot; i.e., the pictures that I took because I thought they looked good turned out much better than the pictures I took to fulfill an assignment. The image from Cyberhall, for example, was taken while socializing over coffee one night. I did not intend to concentrate primarily on what pictures I SHOULD take. I was just having fun. And the image was what we might call a convenient accident. But I realized it was no accident. When I relax and enjoy what I'm doing, be it photography, writing, whatever, it almost always turns out the way I want it to.
