An Eagle Amongst Turkeys

Once there was an eagle's nest high up in a tree. In it was an unhatched eagle egg. One day, the egg began to crack open. Upon doing so, the egg fell out of it's nest and tumbled down the tree and landed amongst a group of turkeys. On impact, the egg fell apart and the tiny eaglet came safely out of it's shell. The first thing the eaglet saw, was a turkey looking down upon him.

Days passed, and the eaglet felt at home amongst the group of turkeys. Soon, he began to walk like a turkey, gobble like a turkey and just act like a turkey. He genuinely felt like a turkey. However, deep down inside, he knew he was a little different from the others but didn't quite know why. Here, all the turkeys just walk around eating their food and gobbling. BORING!

"There's gotta be more to life than just this," the young eagle often asked himself. Often times he felt alone and isolated and felt very distant from the others. He just didn't feel right being here.

One day, he looked up and saw some eagles flying and soaring high above him in the clouds. They were absolutely astonishing, as they effortlessly and beautifully glided and soared through the skies. "If I can only be like one of them," the eaglet often remarked to himself.

One day, an eagle looked down and saw below him an eaglet mingling amongst a group of turkeys. So he graciously decided to fly down to him. "Hey!", said the eagle.

The eaglet turned to him in awesome amazement, "Yyyes sssir?"

"What are you doing down here with these here turkeys?" asked the eagle.

"Well, I'm a turkey," replied the eaglet.

"No you're not! Look at yourself, you have wings like an eagle, and a body aerodynamically formed and shaped to soar high within the heavens. You have eyes, to see at great distances. Your not a turkey, your one of us, an eagle!"

The eaglet was dumbfounded. He didn't know what to say. He just listened.

"Look." The eagle continued. "Spread out your wings. More boy, more! There, now see, none of these turkeys can do that. Now, flap 'em up and down like this."

The eaglet flapped his wings up and down and nothing happened.

"Harder, harder, like this boy," commanded the eagle.

The eaglet flapped his wings harder and harder and he began to rise up off the ground. He was totally amazed at what he was seeing.

"Wow!" yelled the eaglet in total excitement.

"There you go boy. Keep flappin' you'll get the hang of it!" the eagle yelled in excitement.

The eaglet continued to flap his wings and arose higher and higher, and soon, he was flying like all the other eagles he often saw in times past.

He soon realized that this is where his home was. This is where he belongs. This is what he is -- an eagle.

As Christians, we need to realize where our home is. Don't mix with the turkeys, your not one of them, your an eagle. Just because we were brought up in a world of turkeys doesn't mean we are one. God called us to be like Christ and Christ is not of this world. We need to soar high like eagles, above all the turkeys.

We need to quit gobbling and cackling like a turkey. Turkeys get mad at other turkeys and argue. Turkeys cheat on their spouses and divorce one another. Turkeys complain about everything, turkeys speed in their cars, turkeys stay at home and watch T.V. all day. Turkeys take things from work, turkeys cheat on their income tax, turkeys look at other turkeys out of lust. Turkeys, are turkeys.

"Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles..." (Isaiah 40:31)

Always remember, your an eagle amongst a world of turkeys.
