An Honest Plumber

Below is an E-mail forwarded to me by a friend in August of 1998:

Last week me and Bryan ran into a very bad plumbing problem. It seems that Bryan's garbage disposal had corroded to the point where it was leaking, but not badly. What made it bad was that the drains in the kitchen area were not working very well. It seems that his washing machine would dump a lot of water into the drain. This would cause the water to back up in the kitchen sink, and thus the garbage disposal would dump water all over the cabinet.

Well, Bryan hates to call plumbers because they usually charge an arm and a leg to fix his plumbing problems. The last plumber charged him $100 for 30 minutes of work just to fix a small problem with a toilet. The other problem is one of us has to be home in order to let them in to fix the thing.

So Bryan decided to use one of the Christian yellow pages in town and call a plumber. He also went out and purchased a new garbage disposal for the plumber to install.

The plumber showed up on Wednesday morning and fixed all of the problems in about an hour. When he was finished and it was billing time, he handed Bryan the following note:

To All The People God sends my way,

If you have used me before or are new to my service I ask that you take the time to read this letter. In answer to my prayer God has asked me to trust Him and I do. God has asked me to depend upon Him and the inherent good He has placed in His people.

God wants me to bless you with the gift of my labor. That's right. I no longer charge for this or any other service I am able to perform for you. Yes, I do need to earn a living but God has told me that most people will want to give me something for my labors. I realize some are unable to afford what a plumbing company wuold charge. If things are tight and/or you need help making ends meet or are living on a fixed income, unemployed, or over extended please accept the gift of my labors as a gift from God. If you do wish to make a gift to me please place it in the attached envelope.

If you would like or need prayer for anything and would like me to pray with you, or if you don't know GOD and would like to talk and find out more about GOD and our SAVIOR JESUS, I would be happy to spend time with you.

May God Bless you!

Bryan paid him about $120 for his time and said he was going to use his services again. This man not only has the best way to build a customer base, but a great way to witness as well. This man is truly using his gifts to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Too often we know of places that have given us bad service. I know many auto mechanics in Michigan that I never went to again because they over charged and could manage to fix the problem with my car without breaking something else.

I am so impressed with this man's service that I decide that I should let my friends know. Some of you will be purchasing a house in the future and some of you have a house. It is always a good idea to know a good plumber. So keep him in your rolodex and your prayers.

Phone: (972) 423-2274

By the way, he did a great job because a week later the drains still drain and the garbage disposal works as though it came with the house.
