Philip of Hesse and his troops attacked the peasant army in this village 25 miles north of Erfurt. Five thousand peasants were slaughtered, 600 were captured.

1533

Alexander "the Anabaptist schoolteacher", a veteran of the Battle of Frankenhausen 8 years earlier, was executed.
