The Crusaders overtook this Cathar stronghold, and had 400 Cathar perfecti burned to death. At the same time, Geralda, the lady of the castle was killed for sympathizing with the Cathars. She was thrown in a well and stones were heaped on her until she died. Even the Catholics were horrified at her murder because Geralda was well known for her acts of charity. [Strayer, p.79]
