The GWIS of Abu Dhabi is an outcome of the project "Ground Water Assessment Abu Dhabi" executed in 1996-97 by a German consortium comprised of German Technical Assistance (GTZ) and Daimler-Benz-Dornier (DASA). Using his own software, Ground Water for Windows, J. Karanjac entered information from about 1400 wells into a computerized data base. The data include: lithology, stratigraphy, chemistry, and water levels. The GWIS creates and stores cross sections, fence diagrams, various chemical diagrams, contour maps (chemical, stratigraphic, and topographic), etc.
In his 5 visits to Abu Dhabi in 1996/97, J.Karanjac trained about 10 professionals from ADNOC and a joint ground water research project between United States Geological Survey (USGS) and National Drilling Company (NDC, Abu Dhabi) in using the Ground Water for Windows (GWW) software.
