BIOGRAPHICAL : Watson was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, and raised in Bismark. He received his B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of North Dakota and his Ph.D. in creative writing from the University of Utah. In 1987 he won a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and his novel Montana 1948 received the 1993 Milkweed National Fiction Prize. He is currently an English professor at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.
