Rediscovering The Truth About Creation

In his book A Brief History of Time, Mr. Hawking makes an interesting assertion. In considering possible alternatives to an actual big bang, he states that God might have created the universe at any time during or after the computed big bang and that He could have done so in such a way as to make the whole big bang notion appear real [1]. Of course, the author was not seriously suggesting that God would have done such a thing, only that He could have! Nevertheless, the truth is that God really could have created the universe with all the galaxies receding and the whole bit. He could have created a situation that very much resembled a big bang condition without having really created the big bang, and He could have done all these things in a manner so as to simply fool everyone. But in my opinion, the Facts do not support such an hypothesis, at least not entirely!

In The God Particle by Mr. Leon Lederman with Mr. Dick Teresi, these authors suggest that some type of ghost or other strange spirit might be lurking about in the sky, thus preventing scientists from ever learning the truth. They label this so-called mysterious, mystical barrier to one's complete understanding of our origins as the "God Particle [2]." However, like with Mr. Hawking's assertion, I do not think that this suggestion totally describes the actual happening either, at least not entirely! But I do think that the primary thoughts behind both of these two scenarios, modified just slightly, might provide an answer.

The key to understanding the truth is to see beyond the stigmas and barriers and to actually see the truth. Of course, that is not always easy to do! Most individuals do not want a spiritual solution, and most are clearly not looking for one! They are too hung up on the idea that some faraway guy, named God, could have actually done all that is seen in the universe. In the Book of Genesis, Chapter One, the Bible indicates that the Lord simply spoke different things into existence and that they instantly appeared. However, this simplistic explanation for Creation presents a process which is far too mysterious and mystical for most.

Statements like those from the Book of Genesis tend to put all of us back into the fairy tale, make-believe mode which was alluded to in Chapter Twenty-Eight by Observation 28G-1, and that is a mode which definitely brings discomfort! Therefore, instead of trying to deal with and understand difficult spiritual matters, most individuals would rather trust the complicated and the unknown to the world of science. After all, everyone knows that the scientists are really the smart ones anyway! Right? Right!

Scientists can wade through complicated algorithms and intense mathematical theory. They can put together detailed physical laws and construct models to prove their theories in the laboratory. They are able to use their intelligence in many ways. Yet, on this matter of the Big Bang theory, my opinion is that they, too, may have been fooled, despite their massive intellect! The only piece of evidence that really gives any credence to their theory, at all, is this recession of the galaxies, which was listed above as Fact 5A-2. So now, in looking at ALL the evidence, a two-part question comes to mind. First, did God, as Mr. Hawking suggested, create the universe but then second, disguise His handiwork in a series of inconsistent, complicated physics so that our world's brightest individuals would remain so baffled for so long? He could have done both. He even might have done both. But based on the evidence, I do not think that He did!

In thinking like a Fifth Grader, I believe that the answer to the first part of the question above is yes because the Bible teaches in Genesis 1:1 that God did create the world. Since by Facts 20N-1, 23A-1, 24INTRO-1, 24INTRO-2, and 24C-1 we can trust the Book, we can also trust those words! But I do not think that God is guilty of the second part. I do not think that He intentionally disguised his handiwork so that the world's brightest scientists would be lost in this maze of confusion and theoretical inconsistency. The evidence for such a notion simply does not exist. Besides that, such behavior would be inconsistent with His nature. According to I Corinthians 14:33, He is not the author of confusion. He is open, not sneaky, and He definitely is not tricky. In my opinion, God would not have tried to fool anyone, much less everyone! Fact 11a-7 even talks about His love for humankind. Thus, He would not have had any reason to introduce any sort of confusion into His handiwork.

In Genesis 1:14-19, Moses wrote about a specific part of Creation. From his writing, one can read exactly what God did do at the time of Creation relative to the Sun, the Moon, and the stars.

And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light to the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good [3].

From this passage, several points are clear. In addition to the universe as a whole, God specifically created the Sun, He specifically created the Moon, and He specifically created the stars. But notice one other thing! In addition to creating those bodies for light, He also set them in the sky to mark the seasons, days, and years! To me, this added thread of detail indicates that He would have put at least some of those objects in motion, since it is by the revolving of those bodies around each other and around the Sun that the seasons, days, and years are caused.

The first part of the puzzle, in my opinion, is relatively straightforward and also easy enough for our imaginary Fifth Grader to understand. Based on Facts 20N-1, 23A-1, 24INTRO-1, 24INTRO-2, and 24C-1, God did create the universe! He created the Sun, the Moon, and the stars, and He caused some of those bodies to revolve around each other for the express purpose of establishing the seasons, days, and years.

Even Mr. Hawking acknowledged in the above reference that a valid big bang does not eliminate God. But if God did create the universe, then the next question pertains to the actual occurrence of a big bang. Namely, did God create the original compact, highly dense mass which initially led to the alleged big bang? For the answer, we again turn to the Bible and offer the very specific, very clear teaching of Moses concerning the beginning of the universe. The Prophet Moses wrote:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters [4].

The above verses clearly indicate that God created something, but they do not, in any way, suggest that He created a compact, highly dense mass which blew up to become our present-day universe. This statement may not set well with many, and certainly, the suggestion that He just created the heavens and earth is not very exciting or dramatic. But in reading these two opening verses from the Bible, one simply does not conjure up the amazing spectacle of an unexplainable mass blowing up and then generating billions and billions of tons of force. My conclusion, therefore, is that no solid evidence exists to support the Big Bang theory! When one considers ALL the facts, both scientific and spiritual, this is the only result which fits the data.

Some might examine the above verses and emphasize the words "formless" and "empty," but in Verses Three through the remainder of the chapter, it is clear that God was providing the form and substance for the world that He had created, not science and certainly not the implements of science. He filled in the blanks within the universe, not Hot and Cold Dark Matter! The suggestion that the big bang had somehow led to the creation of the stars, the planets, and the galaxies is just not consistent with Scriptures. Some might argue that the Bible was written long ago by uneducated or undereducated individuals. This could be and has been argued, but recall Facts 24INTRO-1 and 24INTRO-2 which showed that this simply is not the case! Remember that the earlier discovery of the Ebla Kingdom showed critics the fallacy of that argument! Some might argue that the Bible has undergone too many translations and that the original meaning has been lost, but recall Fact 24C-1 which showed that the Bible has been accurately copied from the beginning and that the Dead Sea Scrolls virtually verified those copies to be identical! If we have the same or nearly same version as the original, then not much room remains for varying interpretations or misinterpretations! Some might argue that God does not exist. This is certainly an easy avenue to pursue since there are not many challengers to oppose such a notion. Also there are not even that many ways to challenge such a suggestion. However, recall Facts 12B-1, 13G-1, 16F-1, and 16H-1 which showed that this, too, simply is not the case!

God does exist! He did create the earth. At the same time, there is not any credible evidence to suggest that He ever set up special conditions just to make a big bang possible! The Bible can be trusted. The writings of the Prophet Moses were specifically endorsed by Jesus Christ, so they, too, can be trusted because Christ is the One Who rose from the dead. Consequently, the biblical case concerning the origin of the earth is pretty clear and logically sound. Even more significant is the fact that Hot Dark Matter, Cold Dark Matter, and the Inflationary Model do not even figure into the process.

With the above remarks having been made, then what about Fact 5A-1 and the recession of galaxies? What about Fact 5A-2 and the cosmic microwave background radiation? If these discoveries are also correct, then how does one fit those Facts into the whole Creation scheme? How and why are the galaxies receding if not from and because of the big bang? Why is the CMBR being received by cosmologists? The answer to these questions, in my opinion, was given at least partially by Mr. Lederman and Mr. Teresi in their earlier comment. They indicated the possibility that some mysterious, mystical barrier seemed to be in the sky blocking scientists from the truth. They called that phenomenon the "God Particle," and whether they even realized it or not or even intended to, I think that they made a real breakthrough when it comes to explaining Facts 5A-1 and 5A-2.

The above reference from Genesis which mentioned God as having created the Sun, the Moon, and the stars also indicated that He had set them in the sky to mark the seasons, the days, and the years. To me, this information suggests that the Lord set some of those celestial objects in motion. It does not, however, mean that He necessarily set all of them in motion. If not all, though, then which ones would He have started, and which, if any, would He have left alone, and why? I think that these questions can be answered by using the principles of basic Astronomy.

The words in Genesis 1:14 indicate that the Lord had wanted to establish the seasons, the days and the years. Let us consider each of the three, beginning first with the seasons! On earth, the four seasons - Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring - are all caused by this planet's revolving around the Sun. As that rotation occurs, some parts of the earth are exposed to greater amounts of sunlight than others. Consequently, when it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, hence a time of prolonged greater sunlight, it is winter in the Southern, and vice versa. The seasonal changes which are experienced on earth come from those periods of maximum and minimum sun exposure as the earth completes its rotation around the Sun.

Now, let us consider the years and the days! By definition, when the earth has revolved around the Sun one time, a year has passed. This is a pretty simple concept! Concerning the days, a person needs to understand the dual motions of the earth. While it rotates around the Sun, it is also turning on what has traditionally been called its axis. This means that any point on the earth will have some time when it is facing directly into the sunlight and some time when it is looking away. These two events are called day and night. When the earth has turned one full revolution on its axis, hence gone through both day and night, then one day has passed.

In thinking about our calendar, a person can understand this whole process rather easily just by concentrating on these dual motions of the earth. First, the earth rotates around the Sun one time in a year, causing the four seasons. While it is doing this, it is also turning on its axis. In one year or one complete pass around the Sun, the earth also turns about its axis slightly more than three hundred and sixty-five times. Hence, there are three hundred and sixty-five days in a year. The "slightly more" part of this rotation is made up every four years by the insertion of an extra day, which is what we call leap year. When the earth is looking away from the Sun, then according to Verse Sixteen, it should be subject to the lesser light, which is the Moon.

These movements through Space explain what God set up, and from basic Astronomy, it should be clear that only a few of those galactic bodies really had to be in motion. The Sun, for example, does not need to move in order for the seasons, years, and days to occur. Obviously, the earth does because of the dual motions just mentioned. Next, because the Moon goes through the cycles of new Moon, quarter, half, three-quarter, and full, we know that it also rotates around the earth, thus carrying us through the recognized months of the year. Therefore, it too must be in motion. But the important motion relative to Fact 5A-1 is the movement of the stars! While Genesis 1:16 says that God created the stars, this verse DOES NOT SAY that He caused any of them to move, much less to recede in the fashion which has been observed by cosmologists. So, what happened?

I earlier referred to the information in Chapters Twenty-eight and Twenty-nine as our Missing Link, and it is! Fact 29I-1 explains Fact 5A-1. The devil will go to any length to get at God. Nothing is beyond him, and he does have a fair amount of power. We sometimes joke that the devil made me do it. In this case, the devil did not make anyone do anything, but he surely has done plenty on his own. Genesis 1:17 indicates that God created the stars, in part, to produce light, but this verse does not in any way imply that those stars had to recede. My conclusion, therefore, is that God did not cause the motion of the stars, at least not at Creation!

Using very simple-minded, Fifth Grader logic, the evidence suggests that He created them in such a manner that they probably just sat there. I know that many physicists would kick and scream over such a suggestion. However, if we only consider the Facts in this case, then no other conclusion makes as much sense! What does make sense is that the devil, who on his own has a fair amount of power, somehow caused the movement in the stars and galaxies. I cannot say for certain how he did it, but the evidence seems to suggest that he did. Perhaps, such a finding sounds simplistic, but no finding needs to be overly complicated to be true!

For a moment, consider such a scenario! Fact 29B-1 indicates that Satan was the fairest angel of God's creation. It also states that he was not satisfied with that distinction. He wanted more. He wanted to be like God. Fact 28G-2 indicates that he was cast from Heaven to earth, and Facts 28G-3, 29D-1, 29G-1, and 29I-1 clearly show that his objective has been and still is to get at God by getting at God's creation. Since people like you and me are God's creation, it only seems reasonable that the devil would be trying to get at us, and this is exactly what he has done and still does! In the next chapter, his two chief devices for accomplishing that mission will be presented. For now, let us consider again the head-to-head confrontations that were discussed in Chapter Twenty-Nine!

Number two was in the Garden of Eden. The devil tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, and she then enticed Adam to eat. Score one for Satan! In number three, he tricked the people in ways which caused them to live very despicably, even to the point of ultimately leading to their own destruction. While Noah was building the Ark, which would save all the life that was saved, the evil people of that period only laughed. They thought that obeying God was foolishness. So, the devil fooled them right up until and including their own death. Score two for the devil! In Confrontation Number Four, the devil used the Tower to rally the people against God. Score three for the devil!

In all the millennia since the devil was cast from Heaven, his objectives have never changed. He has always wanted to be like God. He has always wanted to get at God. So, when those goals have not been met, he has always reverted to his backup plan of disrupting humanity. In Confrontation Number Two, he convinced Eve that she could be like the gods and know good and evil. In Confrontation Number Four, he convinced the people, through their leader Nimrod, that they could build a tower into Heaven and symbolically be at the same level as God. Now, as we approach the sixth confrontation, the devil is once again making his move. This time, though, he is not using forbidden fruit or super tall towers. He is, instead, using a couple of unproven, unfounded scientific theories to turn a whole world from the Lord!

If we consider some of the Facts and Observations which have been developed, then the dangling pieces of this puzzle should start to come together. Observation 3INTRO-1 addressed the system around us as not loving, needing, or wanting God. The reason is because the devil controls that system, and he hates God! Recall the earlier reference to John 14:27-31 which referred to Satan as the prince of the air! He controls the system around us, not educators and not scientists. The devil does not want God or any of God's symbols anywhere around, and Fact 2INTRO-3 talked about the removal of Bible devotions from public schools. In 1959, that was part of Satan's well-conceived plan.

The devil has cleverly steered our country into a freedom of religion platform and by so doing blown the idea of proper spiritual teaching for all right out the window. At every level of society, he has commenced his attack and made his presence known. He has spoken to many and raised unfounded criticisms about the validity of the Bible. He has spoken to many and brought confusion to the Church about the true teachings of Christianity. Many in churches around the world do not even know what they believe or why they believe as they do. Many more have fallen into false religions. These points were brought out in Observation 8C-5, and as was stated in Observation 8C-6, many grow up with materialistic, selfish ambitions. This, again, is a direct result of the devil's quiet whisperings and nudgings. Most incredible of all, however, is that he has tricked the world's best and brightest minds into believing this whole fantastic story about a big bang, and he has done so, either directly or indirectly, simply by putting the stars into motion.

Our generation suffers greatly because of this wicked one. Observations 8C-1 and 8H-1 talked about young people who grow up rejecting the Lord. Observations 8A-1, 8C-2, 8C-3, 8C-4, and 8C-5 showed the high costs being paid by all. The Facts in this case are true. Unfortunately, so are most of the Observations. And all of this information brings us to an important truth, namely one which says that there is no factual evidence to support the Big Bang theory. Based upon ALL the Facts, the devil seems to me to be the most likely culprit behind this whole thing, and in reality, he is not really doing anything that he has not done to all the generations before us!
