Lesson 18 - Christ - The Preeminent One {202 words}

1. What is the root meaning of convict? Convict comes from the Greek word which means to reprove. It has the idea of causing one to see.

2. What are the three areas that the Holy Spirit will convict? The Holy Spirit reproves of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.

3. To whom's sin does Jesus refer (v. 9)? Jesus is talking about the sin of unbelief, so He is referring to anyone who does not accept Him as Savior.

4. What is the meaning of righteousness (v. 10)? Jesus is our standard for righteousness, so the Holy Spirit causes people to see themselves in the light of Christ's righteousness.

5. What is the meaning of judgment (v. 11)? The Holy Spirit convicts of righteousness because the devil will be judged. This is a reference to Satan's being judged at Calvary and to his eternal judgment at the end of the Age.

6. How will the Holy Spirit guide believers? He will teach believers the truth about Jesus.

7. What do we know about the prayer from John 16:23-26? Prayer is asking, asking in Jesus' name, and getting answers to our prayers from the Father.
