Man studies about God and tries to prove Him for several reasons. First, many people would like to domesticate Him or bring Him down to their own level. Man is naturally uncomfortable feeling that there is a Supreme Being to whom he must answer. So, he tries to remedy that situation by lowering God. Man also attempts to prove God in a way that the Lord can be overtaken, as many of us try in our own way to elevate ourselves to or even above His level. In Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28, the devil's sin was that he had wanted to be as God or over God, rather than to submit himself to God. Adam and Eve had also had the same problem in the Garden of Eden, as is shared in Genesis 3. But God does not allow Himself to be drawn into such situations. While man seeks to know about God through the phoniness of foolish experiences and manmade religions, God's desire is to be known and experienced for Himself and for that alone.
For this reason, the Bible does not attempt to prove God's existence. As can be seen from Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 2:1-7, and numerous other passages, the Bible simply takes the position that He does exist and that each of us is accountable to Him. Hence, we come to know about the Lord not through the silliness of our own devices, but rather through a process which can be described as a rational intuition. Man seems to be rationally led to believe that there is a God. He knows intuitively, for instance, that reason, wisdom, and abstract thought probably would not be possible without God. Man knows and believes that there is a God Who has established certain standards, standards which are in the form of an absolute, infinite norm. Then, man recognizes that there is an infinite Strength upon Whom all are dependent, and lastly, he realizes that everyone will ultimately have to answer to this God.
Because human beings are born with this natural, intuitive instinct for the Lord, the Bible does not try to prove His existence. Much of Scriptures is already consistent with the current proofs for God' existence. But the Bible, instead of pursuing any kind of proof of its own, simply teaches about Him in such a way that the Lord can reveal Himself through His Word. God does not seek or need to prove Himself. He seeks to reveal Himself, and even takes the initiative to do so, in a manner that allows Him to be known and to be experienced. God's desire is to be a part of our life and our experience, not just to show us that He is.
