Making A Decision To Follow Jesus, The Christ

To become a Christian, you only need to acknowledge and do the following:

  • (1) First, you must recognize that you are a sinner. The Bible, in Romans 3:23, says,

    • "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

  • (2) Second, you need to know that your sins carry the very high price of eternal separation from God. The Bible, in Romans 6:23a, says,

    • "For the wages of sin is death."

  • (3) Third, you must accept Jesus, the Christ, as your personal Savior, recognizing that His finished work on the cross at Calvary was done as payment for your sins. The Bible, in Romans 5:6-8, says,

    • "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

    If you agree to each of these three conditions, then you are a simple prayer away from the Lord. Below is a sample prayer that you can use if you like. You may also use your own words because it is the condition of your heart, not of your words, that really matters.

    Sample Prayer: Lord, I recognize that I am a sinner and that you died for me. I ask you to forgive me for my sins and to come into my heart and life. I also ask that you help me live for you and to be a testimony to you. Thank you for saving me. I pray these things in Jesus' name. Amen.
