Proteins is one of the most important nutrients in our diet. It is built from small units called amino acids.

Amino acids are needed for forming new cells, and also for the growth and repair of body cells. They are also involved in the making of haemoglobin in the blood and antibodies. That is why new-born babies, which need a lot of protein for growth, are best fed on milk.

Besides, many enzymes in our body are proteins. Enzymes carry out most of the chemical reactions in our body, and these reaction release energy for us to carry out our daily activities.

Food such as eggs, milk and dairy products, meat, fish, beans and nuts are rich in proteins.
