NEW BEGINNINGS
Chapter 2 - Part F
Standing behind the two doctors, John Samarra felt himself getting lost in the streams of data. After fifteen minutes, Samarra stood up and spoke. “Okay, I’ve tried to keep quiet like you asked, but this is starting to get out of my expertise. What’s it all mean?”
The two doctors looked up at him for a moment, then back at each other. Finally, Stewart explained, “Well, it seems all of this data is on Moore.”
Moving closer, Samarra said, “What!”
Stewart continued, “It’s years of work ups, theories, research, and tests. It’s everything…almost.”
Fine stepped in saying, “We don’t totally understand it yet, but if the conclusions we’ve found are correct, we may have a remedy for what’s happening to Katherine.”
Samarra fell back in his chair and stared at the data. “Thank God. Where did this come from?”
Stewart clarified, “I received an anonymous message with this included. It apparently should have reached me yesterday. Anyway, thanks to my beautiful and able wife, I learned whose research this is, beyond the fact I had my own suspicions of the writing style and processes.”
Fine and Samarra awaited the answer.
Uncomfortably, Stewart spoke, “Well, it sounds unbelievable, but T’rana found proof that it’s mine…and Doctor Fine’s here.”
Shocked, Samarra looked at his friends.
Fine had an equally alarmed look as he asked, “How is that possible?”
Stewart blurted out, “Want a wild answer?”
Fine and Samarra quickly and eagerly said, “Yes!”
“It’s…possible, maybe, it’s from our future.”
Both men looked very unconvinced by this.
Fine said, “Or maybe your wife made a mistake.”
“You wouldn’t say that if you knew my wife and her work. I don’t know, but this information seems to show Moore’s physiology in her later life, the progression of this illness, and it seems to be my work.”
Fine said, “I’m not convinced.”
Exasperated, Samarra said, “Okay, future, mistake, who cares? Let’s just help Katie and ponder these minor points later.”
The doctors looked at each other and concurred.
“Good. Now, what should we do first.”
The doctors looked at him and before they could tell him, he said it, “We need to kick me out.”
Fine nodded saying, “I’m sorry John, but…”
Samarra put his hands up saying, “It’s alright, you don’t need to trip over me. I’ve got the two finest doctors here and should be happy with that.”
Smiling, Stewart said, “I’m glad you understand. We have enough here to start planning out some treatment relatively soon.” Patting Samarra’s arm, he joked, “We’ll call you when we need a nursemaid.”
Trying to let them get back to work he stood, saying, “Whatever it takes, just help her.” Stepping to and through the door, Samarra left the doctors to their work.
Alone, Fine leaned close to Stewart to ask, “Do you really believe your time travel theory?”
“Why not?”
“Let me just quote John there, ‘I hate temporal theories.’”
