On a midsummer's eve when the soft winds blow
I'm reminded of a simpler time, not so long ago
And as I watch the shadows creep slowly across the sky
I'm transported to another time that's gone so quickly by
A time of childhood fantasies, fairies, elves, and gnome
Mamma standing on the porch, watching me walk home
Waiting there with open arms to greet me with a kiss
These things of simpler times gone by i truely, surely, miss
The games of tag, and hide and seek our children do not play
Catching lightening bugs in mason jars, are not things of today
But if you listen carefully, inside your head you'll hear
The voices who meant most to us, the ones of yesteryear
So on a warm midsummer's eve, let the child within you out
search for fairies, gnomes, and elves, and you will have no doubt
That simpler times, yes they have gone , a fleeting memory
Are the things most treasured in my heart, and hold most dear to me
