My Lord may I ask your Lady to dance,
As I bow and I pray to be given a chance,
My Liege he replies we may all ask of she,
We all dance in her love, please ask, you will see...
Then quietly and slowly with much hesitation,
I offer My Lady a dance invitation...
This young man is keen and eager to please.
With your breath on the wind and your voice in the breeze,
You softly reply in a calm soothing tone
You must first learn the steps and to dance them alone.
And whilst you are learning I will always be near,
Just open you mind and with your heart you will hear.
Whilst I am learning with years flying by
From boyhood to man, I see my innocence die
And time after time I ask you to come,
But each time you say my learning's not done.
Now I am old, and with much hesitation
I offer My Lady a dance invitation...
My Lady will you take this poor old man's hand,
I see your eyes in the stars and you heart in the land.
This time you accept and we dance fast and slow,
In a circle till I'm tired and its my time to go.
Kind Lady I will accept your own invitation,
Your embrace fills my soul with a heart-felt elation.
The dance now continues, my wariness gone,
As I feel in my soul the circle moves on.
