The fog of pain seems an eternity in lifting,
Dreams are well shadowed with his presence,
My ears do deceive me nightly
I awaken suddenly,
As his gentle spirit looks down upon us
For my speechless friend speaks innumerable volumes,
Mere humans are we --
Tears slowly cease to fall.
Loneliness pierces our hearts,
slow to ease.
His clarion voice giving praise to the Heavens,
in heart-felt song.
when his feet tread softly upon the carpets of my mind,
feeling his whisper-soft breath
kiss my face,
as his spirit visits me during the long nights.
knowing I shall once again see
his golden-brown eyes, clear,
brimming with joy and happiness,
as I turn in my bed to greet him,
his crooked, "toothey" smile
special to each of us in its turn.
from his lofty new Home,
which he shares now with our great and loving Lord,
Who, in His own infinite wisdom
Blessed us in the giving of this great, gentle creature,
Whom He sent to teach humility, respect
and unconditional love.
With the quirk of an eyebrow,
a tilt of the head,
the twitch of an ear,
the "giving" of his "gentle" foot --
Subtle, silent messages we will forever remember.
our lives enriched by the simple "knowing"
of a friend so true,
Humbly brought to our knees in wonderment and love,
As we open our arms to hug one
who is no longer here with us.
