Rain rat-a-tats
on windowpanes,
tap-dances on metal
roofs,
strums on decks,
gushes in gutters.
Rain drools from slack sky,
catpaws tender twigs,
shushes cricket's serenade,
tickles fingerling lips kissing stream's surface.
Wet dog fur,
damp blankets
and drowned worms
scent rain air.
Rain teases spring breezes,
tempts seeds to sprout,
blasts sun rays
into splintered
prisms.
Rain declares, "Time out."
Story-time,
fireplace glowing embers
and popcorn--
childhood memories kindled by rain.
Rain destroys or blesses--
depends on where it descends.
