The following haiku was written for my son while I was trying to occupy my time in the back row of a humanities class:
Rivers of the World
Run Through
The Blood in your Veins
Okay, so it's a tiny poem and I made you follow a link all the way for just this one poem.
But listen, I was for quite some time trying to write a poem about my son's unique racial heritage. I couldn't figure out the venue for some time but happily I took the above mentioned class and voila inspiration (or mere boredom) hit.
For further exposition: The poem expresses the racial and ethnic heritage my son has received from, indirectly, the world. Literally, to trace his lineage backward would take you over many places in the world. So the poem celebrates this unique individual. It also reflects the hope (up there in the top 3 of human emotions) of eventual harmony in the world in regards to all the problems we have because so many of us are hung-up on "IDENTITY". Too many people associate themselves with a group rather than asserting their individuality and their own talents and accomplishments. Guess they have nothing else to fall back on, huh?
