Meeting Role: Ballot Counter

Contributed by Jesse Black

Purpose:

The Ballot Counter counts the ballots for any contests within the meeting, such as Best Speaker, Best Evaluator, and Best Table Topics respondent.

Before the meeting:

  1. Confer with the President, Toastmaster, and General Evaluator to agree on who will present the awards.

During the meeting:

  1. Explain your role when called upon.
  2. Encourage both members and visitors to vote.
  3. Point out that segments of the ballot sheet can be used to give feedback to anyone with a speaking role:  Toastmaster, speakers, evaluators, etc.
  4. The Ballot Counter does not vote unless there is a tie.
  5. Enter each winner's name on their certificate.

Recommendations:

  1. If the Toastmaster and General Evaluator have not called for voting, remind them.
  2. Sometimes you will receive unexpectedly few ballots.  It may be that one or more attendees don't wish to vote.  Ask if there are any more ballots.  In any case, tally the votes which have been cast.
