Meeting Role: Toastmaster

Purpose:

The main duties of the Toastmaster are to conduct the meeting and to keep the meeting on schedule.

Before the meeting:

  1. If there is a theme, let other participants know in advance.
  2. Call the Grammarian, Table Topics Master, General Evaluator and speakers to confirm their duties.
  3. Prepare introductions for each speaker.
  4. Prepare some remarks to bridge the gap between segments.

During the meeting:

  1. Arrive early to finish last minute details.
  2. Sit near the front of the room to keep transitions smooth.
  3. Ask your "crew" to introduce their roles:  Jester, Grammarian, Timer, Ballot Counter, etc.
  4. Give a quality introduction for each speaker.
  5. Always lead applause before and after each speaker and segment.
  6. Use the suggested meeting guide for the meeting.

Recommendations:

  1. Prepare and give quality introductions for the Table Topics Master and for the General Evaluator.
  2. Confer with the President, General Evaluator, and Ballot Counter to agree who will hand out the awards.
