Another very interesting technological application of that period was used for religion purposes. When somebody offered something to God, whatever time of the day, the Gods had to please him, and so they did! With the help of technology some doors would open and some statues would move automatically!
I suppose that this was enough then...!
Heron and Ctesibius had constructed many machines for the temples. One of them was making a stone trumpet to sound automatically calling the religionists whenever the fire was lit on the altar. Another automation was making some metal birds to open their mouth and sing, some aromatic light rain to fall in the temple, some statues to move or even fly etc. Other devices could control the light in and out of the temple and also create fog!
As you can easily understand, the priests had enough money to pay the scientists of those periods to work for them, in order to satisfy and impress the people and make them offer even more things to the temples. I'm wondering what could happened today with the technology we have if some priests would like to...
